Enhance. Sustain. Protect.
With one foot in research and one foot in development, ICIMOD is an organization unlike any other. Through regional programmes and initiatives, we share knowledge, facilitate change and deliver positive impacts on the lives of those in the HKH.
How we work
ICIMOD is an intergovernmental institution working towards sustaining resources, enhancing livelihoods and valuing culture across the HKH. We protect the pulse of the planet through our work approaches.
We possess the spirit of a think tank, but remain grounded by the realities that surround us. We are driven towards impact, and seek out ways to bring our insights and perspectives to fruition.
Knowledge is the first step towards innovation and impact. We work relentlessly to understand problems by facilitating research and producing data.
We are the voice for the voiceless. The HKH is one of the poorest and most neglected areas of the world, and its inhabitants are facing huge challenges with climate and social change. We’re helping ensure they are not forgotten.
There is strength in partnerships, and we are both a bridge and a catalyst here. We work across levels, organizations and countries facilitating regional cooperation, strengthening inter-government relation, and bringing member countries together.
Both internally and externally, our multicultural staff and partners are our greatest asset. They provide us with a broad perspective across disciplines, and offer us localized knowledge like no other.
Achieving results
We organize our work in Regional Programmes, which build on ICIMOD’s deep history of engagement and are formulated to deliver strategic results, to promote transboundary cooperation, to meet capacity building needs in the region, and to support long-term testing, piloting, and monitoring of innovative approaches.
Our focus
We have a deep history of work across a broad range of issues enabling sustainable development in the complex environment of the HKH. We have been protecting the pulse for over three decades.
Research and data
Our data repository, RDS, contains open access data across thematic and geographic areas in the HKH region.
Our digital repository, Himaldoc, contains a vast array of open access resources focusing on sustainable mountain development in the HKH.
Whether you are looking to join our team, establish a partnership or contribute to our mission there are many ways you can make an impact.
