A partner since inception
China contributes core support to ICIMOD and the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) is the designated nodal agency.
The incumbent Vice President of CAS formally represents in the ICIMOD Board of Governors. China and ICIMOD have been working together in the areas of capacity building, institutional strengthening, internships, research and demonstration, and regional and international workshops and conferences, among other activities.
ICIMOD`s partner institutions in China include government agencies, development agencies, academic and research institutions, universities, NGOs and private sector.

Conservation and sustainable use of natural resources in landscapes defined by ecosystems rather than administrative boundaries.
Economic and social benefits derived from water resources in an equitable manner while conserving and restoring freshwater ecosystems.
Use science-based knowledge on air quality, atmospheric processes and climate to shape policies and actions leading to air pollution mitigation.
Enable use of information and knowledge for policies and practices through support from a regional information system in the HKH region.
