“Wonder Woman 1984” is still more than a year away, but we only have to wait six months to see one “Wonder Woman” reunion: Chris Pine and Patty Jenkins’ TNT limited series “I Am the Night,” which dropped its first trailer Monday.
The L.A.-set noir drama is based on the book “One Day She’ll Darken,” which tells the true story of Fauna Hodel (India Eisley), a young woman who, after learning she’s adopted, uncovers her dark family history that involves Dr. George Hodel (Jefferson Mays), an infamous gynecologist connected to the 1947 “Black Dahlia” murder.
Pine plays Jay Singletary, a Marine-turned-reporter/paparazzo who jumps on the story and takes phone calls shirtless when he’s not cruising around in period suits. The cast also includes Leland Orser, Dylan Smith, Jay Paulson, Yul Vazquez, Justin Cornwell and Golden Brooks. Jenkins directed the pilot and serves as executive producer, alongside Pine. Her husband, Sam Sheridan, wrote the six-episode series.

“I Am the Night” will premiere sometime in January, so it’s safe to say TNT is hoping to duplicate the suspense thriller success it had with “The Alienist,” which debuted on Jan. 21. The Daniel Bruhl–Dakota Fanning starrer became a fan favorite and is in the running in the open limited series Emmy categories.
And speaking of the Emmys, this could be ticket for Pine to become the first Chris to EGOT. Unlike Evans, Pratt and Hemsworth, Pine already has an Emmy nomination under his belt, in 2016 for his voiceover work on “SuperMansion,” so he’s ahead of the game. (He was also on this year’s ballot for “Wet Hot American Summer: Ten Years Later.”) And if “I Am the Night” doesn’t work out, he’s next playing RFK in a Hulu limited series. Pine is coming for that Emmy no matter what.
