Today I saw something surprising and completely unexpected. One of the newest generation of shaas (as we have learned to call them) reached adulthood, the first of his clutchmates to do so. This is completely normal, and so none of us thought much of it as the creature stretched and flexed its new digits and re-learned how to walk on newly jointed claws. What was new, however, was what happened directly after it had figured out how to walk again on all fours. It appeared to study its bondmate (one of the other researchers), and then shakily stand on its hind limbs. Awkwardly at first, staggering about as one might expect of any other four-limbed beast attempting to walk on two limbs. Then the strangest thing happened. It studied itself, and then... somehow rearranged its limbs and fatty deposits into a completely bipedal configuration! It even managed to look female, though it remains lacking in actual gender-indicative anatomy, which can only lead me to believe it is because the researcher is herself female.
Upon further examination, it would appear that many, though not all, of the newest generation are able to shift back and forth between their two- and four-legged shapes. This is an interesting new development. I wonder if the previously hatched and grown shaas are able to learn the same ability, or if it is restricted to new generations.
It would appear that we have not seen the full extent of this species' evolutionary process. Why this change is taking place, I am not quite certain. Though my best guess would be that they are somehow, consciously or unconsciously, attempting to become more appealing to their chosen bondmates. Whether this is intended to make them appear more acceptable to, or become more like the being they spend their entire adolescence effectively feeding off of isn't yet clear. Perhaps with more time and experimentation. For now, it remains an interesting new development in an entirely alien species.
It will be interesting to chart their progress as the generations continue.

Yus. I've finished the anthro template (female in appearance, anyway - remember, shaas are for all intents and purposes genderless... though they can apparently rearrange their bones/muscles/tissue into some fun shapes)! :D I adore shaas. Can't wait to see the next step in their evolution towards becoming more like their bondmates. What will it be? We'll seeeee~ X3
Oh, and for everyone's information: past generations will -not- be able to learn how to shift into new configurations. Only new generations, and only if they are bought before they hatch. Sorry! I wanna keep it special. *sheepish*

XD Man sometimes I wish I could see what other people expect the eggs to hatch like. O: That could be a fun contest!
