And yes, you actually can run faster going digitigrade. Walking is a bit awkward for humans, though. (Yes, I've tried it. )

I should say later chapters would have him mutating and shooting tentacles out of his severed limbs. Because werewolves in this setting are fucking weird, it's not even technically a zooanthropy virus, that's just how it manifests for people who think it's that.
