Damn you Google SketchUp! Why'd you have to betray me and stop exporting correctly! Maya is much harder to learn than you. :(
Enjoy a crappy screen shot of my vidja game. How are you liking these stand in art assets? ha ha
Though the modeling is tough to learn, having a Computer Science degree helps with the programming.

A fellow CS major! Though I'm still on the road to my degree. Which languages are you versed in? c:
Through all my classes and projects I learned: C, C , C#, Java, Lisp, Visual Basic, LaTex, Smalltalk, GAWK, Prolog, Python, and Action Script.
Hot damn! D: Well, two years into my CS courses and I've so far only learned C and Java. Looong way to go, though. Transferring to a big UC next fall. c:
Can't wait to see what kind of turn-based game you pump out!

modeling is hard, but I love it! I can give you/direct you to some good resources to learn. Maya is also actually one of the easier programs to learn because of the big ol buttons and extensive documentation. I learned on maya I use blender now though because I like it's modeling tools muuuuch better >V
if you want help do you want me to note you some links/tips or do you have IM I could shoot you a message at and send this stuff to you/answer questions?

I've been watching tutorials all day! But I welcome any help I can get lol. I'll send a note your way.
It looks like you're making a tactical rpg with an emphasis on terrain! My interest, you have it :o
very nice iso terrain. is that noise-generated, or is it hand-coded/hand-edited?
I've worked a fair bit with noise and JavaScript. I was working on some HTML5 games back when people didn't realize how gimped the audio was. Now I work with Unity.
I don't have anything published, but I've worked on games of various sorts over the past five years or so. Let me know if you have any ideas you'd like to throw my way.

Hand coded/edited. It's so the terrain can be used in strategical planning. Though depending on how much I get done, a randomized (which I assume is similar to noise generated) fields could be a possibility for other parts of the game. I'd try to do what the game, Disaea, did did. Which I believe was put in algorithms to calm down the noise so that an "island" wasn't created too far away for anyone to reach or with a goal unreachable my height.
Also, though I hand create that model, it does become tedious to measure the heights of what I've created so I'll probably code something up for that to automatically find those for me.

cool beans. I'm working with someone who's doing similar with XNA, a Disgaea-like game with sprite graphics, except it's multiplayer. she's very experienced with network coding. If you'd like to see what we have sometime, hit me up if you like.

I will play this game nonstop till I've beaten it and go back to constantly lying about never playing videogames.
