An old sketch I decided to paint.
It's acrylic. I don't know how long I spent on it. Maybe 8 or 9 hours.
P.S. Thank you all for your lovely comments :3

I love this so much. I could totally see this on the wall of a super-fancy hotel. The detail and colors is just amazing.
O_O This is the most beautiful lion I've seen in a very very long time. <3
Thank you for posting this. It made my day.

I always loved the detail you put into things.
I'm also still amazed that you actually painted my badge rather than simply drawing it with markers etc.

SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY!
No but seriously. These things are bloody awesome, though unfortunately I bet a lot more than I could ever afford...

It is exquisite. Wow. If it ever goes up for sale (or prints) I would definitely be sure to display that in my home with pride (pun, sort of intended?) Thank you for your hard work.
Beautiful! Love the use of light and blue shading. And the marks over the fur is a great detail.
Dayum that's a lot of brush strokes. No wonder it took you that much time. Not a single hour wasted though! The result is great. You have a great talent for shadow and light effects.
This lion looks so wonderful! Such a proud and majestic feline!
The details are looking great, especially the fur and mane. Really awesome work! =^.^=

great work on fur, lighting, and expression. I like his lopsided smile, like thinking, "what do we have here? a cub, for sure!"
also, the lighting is like moonlight shining down.
the fur markings make him special, too. all in all a regal and powerful creature. :)

I do believe I have said sketch
will this be up for sale or anything?

Oh yeah; was that you? :3 Yes it will. I'm not sure yet where, though. At MFF or maybe FC
Since I only make it to FWA each year, it's unlikely I'll be able to bid on the original -- but I certainly hope you consider offering prints of this one! Gorgeous detail. Such expression.
out of weird curiosity, what kind of surface did you paint this on, and how big is it?
Holy carp and other fishes.
Was thinnking, yeah, that looks pretty good, then read the description, and looked even closer.
The way you have done the fur is stunning.
Really, just, lovely.
Want to steal your ability. Still, 8-9 hours, that is a long commitment indeed.
Really, just, strong and lovely.

This one has always been one of my favourites of yours. I'm not sure if it's the colour, lighting or angle of his face but something about it makes it just so much more than a normal painting. It seems to have a life to it one rarely finds. :3
Love this palette of color :)) -- so beautiful! The lighting is a great choice aswell.
and of course, I'm a total sucker for lions :P

I love the expression and the depth you created by using warm light and cold shadows, so beautiful
I'm without words. This is majesty and impressiveness combined in one lion!
I swear the sheer amount of detail is amazing and I love the colors used
Your fur always looks real enough to touch. I wanna pet the kitty.
What is it called when something is so beautiful and stunning and amazing that time stops and lingers for a moment?
Because I just had one from seeing this...

So impossibly gorgeous, perfect, and awe-inspiring. And I mean the art, not just the lion himself. ^_^
That sun symbol makes for a very interesting and unusual way of breaking up the mane. This definitely is something I'd expect to see in a professional art gallery, on posters and WWF promotional art, and of course, fantasy art like Magic.
*becomes lost in the amazing flow of that rich mane* Those eyes and that face prove why I was first lost to lions, so long ago...

It's so beautiful. How did you ever do all that detail, especially with the fur? Is there a certain brush you use when approaching that?
I like using little script brushes. Also something called a 'grass' brush, which is just a thinner, less full version of the usual wedge-shaped brush.
Your lions are always so fantastic! I love the mood and set of this one alot
WOW! simlply amazing this is so so beutiful x i love it! *hugs the pic* x =3
I saw this piece in this year's Art Show, and was immediately captivated. I only regret that I was outbid!
It's kinda sad how FA makes it hard for some people to find drawings like this among all weird stuff. This is probably the most beautiful lion portrait I've ever seen, it's really amazing, I love it!
I would love to have seen the original sketch. Is it posted anywhere?
