Another of my submissions for the Ink Monkeys PDF project. This one is for the "Sidereals" chapter.
The Sidereals, for those unfamiliar with Exalted, are the secretaries and office-assistants of fate. Armed with nothing but world-shattering Kung-Fu and reality-warping Astrologies, these overworked mystical middle managers of Awesomeness oversee the course of history and destiny.
As is often the case with middle managers, office politics wind up taking priority over everything else, and even the simplest project gets caught up with bickering and arguments over the most minor of details.
Which is why five Sidereals are all involved with what should be a simple "Get a mystic artifact from a prior life into the hands of a newly born Solar Hero" scenario. This sort of thing goes on -all- the time. It explains a lot about how the world works, don't you think?

Hmmm so fate has secretaries and that? I did not know that.

The Exalted setting has a whole government(corrupt) running it's version of Heaven.
"Fate" is an old-fashioned spinning loom watched over by mecha-spiders that have a fetish for "Rule of Cool".
I never fully understood them, but they seem to be a pretty awesome group :>
So many names...
Possibility Adjuncts.
Causality Random Variable Generators.
Fatemasters.
Probability Managers.
Divergent Cause/Affect Actuators.
Sidereal Event Calculators.
All overseen by the Arbiter of Causality, Manager of Probability and Executor of the Terminal Event Calculus, Her Royal Whyness.
What? Do you think all the shit that happens to you, and everyone you know, just "happens"?

They can still cause massive screw-ups, like that time part of them orchestrated a genocide of the Solars.
Find it a bit sad that an RPG system would include the idea of rigid fate, let alone have Fates that actually manage it.
It's the cosmic railroad!
It's the cosmic railroad!
*laughs* "rigid fate". In Exalted.
*laughs and laughs and laughs*
The reason the Fate's need an entire class of super-human martial-artist demigods to help out is because of how fucked up/weak Destiny/Fate is in the universe.
Not to mention, all Exalted are considered unbound by Fate, and fuck up the preplanned futures with every action they take.
Even the most powerful Astrological bindings just give dice bonuses/penalties in certain circumstances to try and push people onto the "right" path.
The Sidereals spend a lot of their time dealing with things like "So, this dude drowned yesterday. But he's still walking around like nothing happened. And his 'widow' is due to marry another guy next week. But her husband is still alive. Somehow. Get that fixed or everything's going to get snarled."

Thanks for the update, though! I didnt mean to sound hostile, if i did xD Exated is a system i really should give a go, But i'm scared off a little by White Wolf's truley awful combat system. They make RPG's with real deep and interesting social interactions, and i love them for it, but their combat flows like treacle. Especially if it's WoD and werewolves are involved. Gah.
Not at all.
And yeah, the combat system is wonky. The Exalted combat is different from the WoD standard, more comple then DnD, but I always enjoyed it. Stunting helps a lot.

Oh, Exalted.
I used to fiddle with people by naming mostly-trustworthy Siderials after Green Lanterns and mostly-untrustworthy Siderials after Jedi.

*laughs* All of my Sidereals were named by concept or role. "The Young Sage" "The Goddamn Lawyer" "The One In Red Robes". It was stylistic as hell, but it seemed to work. :)
Considering what usually happens when trying to keep track of NPC names, that's probably a prudent policy.
I was about to say this reminds me of the magical stock market before I read the description.
Accountants with world shattering kung fu.... that would make an awesome action movie!

The Stockmarket air was an intentional stealth joke. "What are the Sidereals doing?" "They're trading futures!" *gets slapped*
This is awesome (as is the very concept of Exalted). Am i crazy or are they using err....."Arachnomancy"...?
No, they're just performing such basic Astrology on the Loom of Fate. Which is spun out by the Pattern Spiders.
