The title track for the second half of "Painting Clouds and Mountaintops", "In the Land of Funny Animals". This is a remake of an older track of mine, featured on a release that bears the same title. I decided to remake the entirety of said album to fill out the second half of my latest album release this year because "In the Land of Funny Animals" has always meant very very much to me both as a musician and as a furry. It was the first collection of songs I released that I could proudly call "furry music", and I've always been incredibly fond of the composition and arrangements I achieved with it, so I performed and recorded the tracks once more (at a higher fidelity this time) with a little help from my friends. There are two other people featured on this track: my husband garwik during the spoken intro and my dear friend scurrow whose vocals help me carry the song to its end after the last chorus.
The intro is a sound collage of phone recordings I made in the halls of a music school at a university far, far away from here. There was an orchestra rehearsing on one end, and piano students practicing on the other. I walked from one end to the other while recording. The little "ticket skit" was recorded at home along with the ascending chords on piano that lead into the drum-backed instrumental bit before the vocals come in. The organ bits were performed on a Kawai electric synth organ that was left behind in a move around the time the album was released. This was, I think, the first song I (almost) completed for this album. I say 'almost' because I went back towards the end of the mixing process to tweak it a bit ofc.
Thanks to everyone who helped this album become a reality, I love you all deeply. Looking forward to 2025 being a year filled with lots more new music from you all and from myself as well.
