While sorting through my photos, I found a random shot of an old hearse in the parking lot of a Walgreens from late September, and that reminded me of a character of mine I had plans for yet haven't drawn since 2018, a fat hyena named Jenaro.

He's looking quite melancholy here, perhaps thinking about how business seems to be picking up lately.

Jenaro and his wife Marcelina run a small, sorta sketchy but earnest funeral home, a choice befitting a family of hyenas. They have one child, the fat and awkward nerd, Leoncio. I imagined them having a family dynamic almost like a sitcom, and specifically, some sort of hybrid of The Addams Family and Married With Children--Jenaro and Marcelina are in love with each other and love what they do, and they are wholesome weirdos that use the hearse as their family car, but they are also snarky, broke, and sorta trashy... to the point where they use the hearse as their family car. They see nothing wrong with this.

Meanwhile, Leoncio has to navigate all the perils of being a nerd in high school, while also dealing with his parents dropping him off at school in a hearse sometimes. I sometimes thought about Leoncio rebelling against his parents by threatening to become a doctor.

At least the hearse has plenty of cargo space in the back, which comes in handy when the fat hyena family goes grocery shopping.

Awkward sitcom shenanigans I can see them getting into include Jenaro being stuck trying to help deliver a baby and panicking because that's the exact OPPOSITE of his job, Jenaro casually napping in a casket and terrifying some unsuspecting bystanders when he climbs out of it to resume his activities, the hearse getting stolen or towed while there's a casket and someone's grandma in the back and the hijinks that ensue, and Leoncio learning to drive using the hearse rather than a typical car--and borrowing the family hearse to drive himself and some of his weirdo friends to a concert because showing up to a concert by whatever my universe's equivalent to Ghost is in a hearse would be METAL AS FUCK.

I also imagine their house is haunted, but they don't care and just about all paranormal activity is met with reactions ranging from complete indifference to mild annoyance, with particularly annoying phenomena being met with Marcelina bringing the vacuum into the room and vacuuming in that general direction.
