Some say that lupines didn’t always travel to the stars. Once, they were territorial creatures bound to a single world, vying for the highest peak or tallest tree to mark their presence, leaving their scent for miles. The galaxy laughed at the idea of wolves among the stars, but Hunter knew better. He lived it.
The thought crossed Hunter’s mind as he scaled yet another structure on this lonely, windswept planet. His claws gripped the jagged surface of the tower with ease, the reinforced padding on his fingers providing a subtle hum of resistance against the icy material. His cloak, flecked with dust, rippled with the breeze, and his ears flicked toward the faint sound of wind turbines spinning in the distance. The planet was sparsely populated—exactly the kind of place his kingdom sought—unclaimed land for a growing empire.
Hunter’s tail wagged in rhythm with his ascent. It wasn’t an easy climb, but for him, the act of claiming a new world had always been a thrill. There was something primal about the challenge, a connection to his ancestors who once fought over hilltops and dens. Now, he conquered skyscrapers, spaceports, and barren wastelands. He wasn’t just some lone wolf anymore; he was Hunter the Conqueror. The name struck fear in some and admiration in others, but it was simply his purpose to him.
The top of the building came into view—a flat expanse of dark steel that stretched out under the dim glow of the planet’s twin moons. Hunter pulled out the flag secured to his belt as he hoisted himself over the edge. The fabric unfurled with a soft hiss, revealing a bold emblem: a wolf’s head surrounded by stars, the sigil of his kingdom. The sight made his chest swell with pride.
He drove the flagpole into the building’s surface with a steady paw. The sound echoed in the stillness, a metallic clang that seemed to reverberate across the planet. Hunter stepped back, letting the flag catch the wind. It flared to life, the vibrant colors standing out starkly against the muted gray and blue of the alien skyline.
Another conquest complete.
“Mission accomplished,” Hunter muttered to himself, his lips curling into a satisfied smirk. He tapped the communicator on his wrist. “Tower secured. Begin planetary scans for resource sites. I’ll rendezvous back at base in an hour.”
“Copy that,” came the response from his second-in-command, a stoic fox named Rhea. Her voice crackled slightly through the transmission. “You’re making this look easy, Hunter.”
“It is easy,” he replied with a cocky grin, gazing out over the endless expanse of rocky terrain. “They don’t call me the conqueror for nothing.”
“Don’t get too comfortable,” Rhea warned. “We’ve picked up faint signals—possibly a scouting party from another faction. You know what that means.”
Hunter’s ears twitched at the implication. He adjusted the strap of his utility belt, his free hand resting on the hilt of his plasma blade. “Let them come. This planet is ours now.”
As he turned to descend the tower, Hunter paused for a moment to admire the view. The stars above seemed closer here as if they were leaning in to watch his every move. His ancestors might have been content to fight over scraps of land, but Hunter had set his sights higher—literally. He would take what others deemed impossible, carving a legacy not in soil but in space itself.
“Some say lupines didn’t always travel the stars,” he murmured to himself, the words echoing in his head like a mantra. “But I’m not some lupine. I’m Hunter.”
And with that, he leaped from the edge of the building, his figure cutting through the cold night air as he descended toward the planet that now bore his mark.
