(...or as I've been referring to this piece recently: Scope Creep Simulator)
These two orcs met while working as mercenaries, and developed a more-or-less good-natured rivalry with each other shortly thereafter. While this mostly entailed them competing with each other, the occasional fight would sometimes break out but would generally be resolved quickly without either party holding grudges, and despite outward appearances the two came to trust each other enough that they only took jobs together. This went on for some time, until they were employed by a small band of outlaws, the other member of which treated them as equals, in contrast to most other spacefaring peoples who regarded their species as brutes or any other manner of "lesser race." As such, they decided to join the outlaws in a more long-term capacity, and did quite well for themselves among their ranks.
One day, the ship's doctor, being something of a mad scientist, approached them with a question and a proposition: If damage to a person's vital organs would likely result in death, would not twice as many vital organs per body make one twice as resilient? Unable to argue with that logic, the two orcs agreed to the experimental procedure that involved surgically conjoining their bodies together, each retaining her full upper body but now sharing a single pelvis and pair of legs between them. While this change was was understandably hard for them to get used to, and their muscular frames left little elbow room between the two, they eventually managed to hit their shared stride! ...although they were no less competitive, despite their permanently-very-close proximity to each other.
Things continued like this for some times, although the crew's luck took a turn for the worse when some crime boss or other despot who did not take kindly to being stolen from sent a fleet of hired guns to shoot down the merry band of outlaws' precious ship. During the assault, the explosion from a torpedo sent a chunk of a bulkhead flying toward the orcs, slicing them clean in half. However, the outlaws managed engage an emergency hail-mary warp and, almost miraculously, crash landed in a strange, uncharted region they would later find to be known as the Reprieve. The entire crew managed to survive the ordeal, not least the two now-half-orcs, who proudly attribute their survival to the strange procedure working as advertised. Thankfully neither of them were particularly traumatized by their bisected condition, viewing it as just another impressive battle scar from an injury that the two of them were tough enough to survive. They have since been fitted with a modified spinal interface and have various interchangeable pairs of powerful bionic legs, their favorite of which is being worn here. With these they can kick down doors, they can kick down walls, and while they could kick down most people before the accident too it's now much more effective and satisfying!
This took so long but now I can finally work on other things! Potentially also of note, I've now posted another pic of these two not wearing legs (i.e. just the top half/halves) which can be found here if anyone's interested in that!
...As usual if anyone has name suggestions I'd love to hear them!
