From the sketchbook, coloured pencil and acrylic. 5x3 cm.
Tomba of Hira, mid-5th millennium to present day. The dead are entombed in communal ossuaries with slots in the stonework for funerary offerings of gin and vanilla candles, crowned with tilework statues around 10 meters tall.
The statues face the sea where possible and represent the ancestors of the associated troops, with artistic conventions depicting each individual. However over the centuries of occupation eroding lemurine culture, the specific names have been lost any no reconstructions are universally recognised by the troop councils.
"Tomba" is both plural and singular. The Malagasy-descended lingua franca of Hope of Hira has only contextual plural distinction.
