Since moving to my own flat, I found myself facing reoccurring maintenance tasks with frequencies varying from daily to monthly. A smartphone reminder app can help, but I think that a low-tech and low-energy mechanical solution is possible. This wall-mounted apparatus contains seven four-sided rotating blocks (the tasks being written on the blocks with a dry erase marker) and a moving day pointer.
A clockwork motor coupled with several Geneva mechanisms is used to move the pointer one position each day and rotate the blocks by a quarter at the end of the week. This short animation shows a similar system with three-sided blocks for a dynamic billboard.
