Bird Stack - Corvidae

Upon falling in love with harris hawks, who 'stack' upon each other for hunting, I also fell in love with the idea of 'bird stacks' - the idea of just stacking a bunch of birds on top of each other for no apparent reason. I recently found a few other artists who have been doing this, but not in this style, so here is my take on one of my favorite bird familes, 'stack' style. :)

Love your work, as always! clean lines and a "Friendly" feel puts a smile on my face every time.
Reminds me of a Far Side comic where Larsen introduced "Stackable Livestock". A farmer had various barnyard animals stacked on top of one another. Rather amusing. "Stackable Livestock" has been in the family vernacular ever since.

The Jay is so cute he looks a bit like "Why are you standing on my crest? D:"
Aah, I love this! Corvids are my favorite birds so I might be biased :D
The bluejay is the only one out of these I never saw in real life yet- I hope I get the chance sometime. I know rooks live here (they're called 'roek', you pronounce it the same way), they're not as common as jackdaws, magpies and crows but I still see them pretty often... are they navite to the US too? I'm too lazy to check my bird book right now but I should check it out to see the differences. Even when I go to Vienna I'm always exited as heck by the hooded crows, I've never seen them anywhere else.

Nope, we don't have rooks here! Ravens are one of our only common corbies, I think - we have different types of magpies in the U.S. than you do there and we have american crows vs. hoodeds/house/etc.
I love hooded crows - I saw them in Ireland when we went, I think that's the only place in Europe that I did. Jackdaws are my absolute favorite (we don't have them here) - I think I spent as much time watching them in CZ as I did looking at architecture and art!

Yeah, I'm lucky to live in a country full of birds! I never get to see much other wildlife but even after we moved to a newly constructed area, I can nearly always see magpies when I look out of the windows :D I think they are my favorites but I love the sound of jackdaws too- I'm hearing one as I type :D (they're even named after their sound, kauw, pronounce cow) I was super exited when I saw ravens at the Grand Canyon, they're supposed to live here but have been pretty much extinct for decades. And even at the zoo 80% of my photos were of birds... but well, I've seen more Visayan pigs and Baird's tapirs in my life than I've seen grackles :D
Love the detail in the feathers! As unnatural as it is to see a birdstack you make them all look very realistic and natural in their posing. Excellent work!
A friend of mine linked me to those - so much fun! :) I think it's a fantastic idea. Birds are great - stacked birds, even better!
http://www.furaffinity.net/view/4549080 Sure you've probably seen this, but it's relevant!
I approve of this. More birds should take on the stacking habit! ^v^

I hadn't, thank you for the link! That is so cute and I love your markings, really clever!
Will you do a stack for Psittacines soon?
It will probably take some time for me to get to them, but I'd like to split them up (probably cockatoos, macaws, amazons, etc.) since there are so many amazing ones out there I couldn't pick just a few! I'd love to do a cockatiel version with the different color morphs as well. :)
That sounds awesome, they're my favourite bird family! I figured either budgies or parrotlets would be on the top. ^v^
I loved this so much when you were wearing it! It's like, these birds got life lessons in Ikea! XD
We always knew furries are stackable, but now it's proven for featheries too!
Vertical bird stacking. You're right. No...human being...would stack birds this way.
raven there aswell, which reminds me the AC-game serie's. so nice aswell
I love your stacked birds illustration! So cute!!
I'm glad to hear that you've been having an awesome time visiting with Lyosha at Mountsberg. I totally miss the birds there!

The bird on the top is an Inca jay (also known as a green jay, though the Inca is a subspecies in that family group) - very beautiful and colorful corvids! Very neat about the bird pics, I always love it when I catch a glimpse of cardinals around here :)
lol I should have guessed it was not a oriole since the birds you have draw are from the Corvidae FamilyXD
but indeed Red, or Nothern Cardinal are my favorite birds, along with Chikadee and Gray Jay who are so sweet
and a Cardinal song is so beautiful to hear, and it's secialy amazing when the Female and Male sing, togheter, I wich there were Rose-breasted Cardinal (rose-breasted Grosbeak) were I live but they are more western.
well I can give you a shout when I will upload my pics, I have so much fun with My father new Canon Cam^^

I love these, it almost like they were taken out of a nature book. I bow to your drawing skills.
Bird Stacks... I discover something new every Day on Fa. ^^ Cheers!
I am in love with this concept! Do you think you'd be able to do a commission for me like this sometime in the future, but with all my favourite birds? When/if you're open, of course!
Usually there's a tree or various perches involved with stacking, but apparently it's not a requirement. Hehe.
