eh, it only takes practice and a passion for it. ^.^ I'd be lying if I said I never used to suck. lol
You could also try printing it and doing a freehand colouring.
as far as MSPaint I use it for base colours in an image. maybe minor shading to help when I get to the more extreme shading.

I just ain't good at it period for at least now until i can get a good program for making art
