My heart is happy <3 Seeing them happy together and hugging in the last panel
Glad to see the cubs lived. I guess this is how stories of Devil Bunnies started. XD
Don't get this survivor of the alt.devilbunnies wars started about those vile creatures. It wouldn't be right to hijack the comment thread on Teagan's incredible work.
Ha! I only remember seeing the usenet groups with that title, I never really looked deep into it.
You were wise to do so. (chuckle) And again, I really don't want to delve deeper than that into it here.
Good eye. I was looking at that and thinking that it was odd to see blood on that end of Seral. I didn't quite realize at that time his entire tail was missing.
So glad Hemlock was able to overcome her pain to not kill the pups. I know a lot of people think she's some irredeemable monster, but she is a flawed and pained character with trauma. I'm sure letting the pups live was a hard decision and hopefully she doesn't come to regret it.
Kinda scared for the future of all the prey animals who now have two fully grown wolves and two hungry mouths to feed and I don't think they'll be able to easily survive on fish and eggs like Rask and Egg. Hopefully the decision bodes well!

They’re going to have to learn how to farm and ranch (fish and birds, obviously).
Ooo! That would be such an interesting thing to see them do - seeing how they establish the wolves together in the settlement, i hadn't even thought about the farming and cultivation aspect. That would be awesome
Hunting and Gathering is not going to last long, even for the prey species, I think. Without the pressure of predation to control their numbers, their population is going to explode. They probably don't even know such a thing can even be a problem. If they don't learn how to farm, they're going to quickly exhaust what the forest can naturally provide. Think no more than 2 or 3 generations are needed.
And a society is always 3 missed meals away from civil unrest.

Yep, the trouble is, is there enough replenish-able fish in this forest? Rask and Egg (well, Rask mostly lol) was worried about how the existing resources were dwindling just under their utilization.
What if that was a joke, or I'll say it anyway: what if they do have feelings?
Lastly, what if plants feel pain?
The futility of the matter is: we haven't invented the dead putty yet, that is still edible. We eat living cells at all times.

Dogs can survive on a vegetarian diet, so I assume it's possible for wolves too.
Felines would have problems, because their bodies can't synthesise some nutrients that are only available in meat. But fish can fix that.

Some quick research shows only on a limited basis for wolves, it would be hard for them to get all the calories and nutrition they need just from nuts, veggies, and fruits and can cause health problems if long term. I think it might be possible if there were farms set up and some agriculture already, but without it in place I really don't think 4 wolves could even manage short term foraging in the forest there.
Clearly they just need to get real good real quick at making tofu.
Be still my worried heart!
I'm eager to find out what stayed Hemlock's spear.
I'm eager to find out what stayed Hemlock's spear.
Well, they both did just watch their uncle get taken out by a rabbit, so…that’s understandable.
And now, the people swearing on everything that Hemlock would absolutely kill the cubs and that nothing in the world would stop her get to eat crow. But I doubt a single one of them would dare admit that they were wrong about her. I've been quietly waiting for this page to go public ever since I saw it on Patreon because I knew what the Hemlock Haters Fanclub would say about the build up, lol.
to be honest. I was one who believed she would hurt the pups. For now it - thankfully - seems like I was wrong . And well. I rather enjoy admitting i was wrong here ^^
Part of me was kinda hoping someone would see the little bit of irony in me saying that those who were wrong about the outcome could eat crow, since there's currently a crow eating Seral. But I'm not the world's best at humor, so meh.
I’m holding out until we see what actually went down there. Did she decide on her own that this was too far, or were there external interferences? Has your pay-for-precognition revealed that yet?
I'll take one helping of skepticism, but hold the smarmy attitude, I'm on a diet. "Pay-for-precognition" almost sounds like an insult and I pay not only because I enjoy the story but to also lend my support to the awesome-as-hell artist. And also to read advance pages ahead of of time.
And as for your question; many things have been revealed, both big and small, while other things remain hidden, but exactly or even vaguely what, I won't say. If you're so curious, you could try it out yourself, I recommend it.

I did last year, then I got laid off and had to cut down my Patreon memberships while I was job searching. Never restored what was lost after I got back onto my feet.
As for "swarmy attitudes", try and not cast the first stone, then. "But I doubt a single one of them would dare admit that they were wrong about her." came off as quite insufferable.
Crows tend to gang up on anyone who actually causes them injury too.
Very happy to be proven wrong this time! Hopefully we do end up seeing a redeeming arc for Hemlock as deep down she's not a evil character she's just got a LOT of trust issues and PTSD which...Rightfully so you know? It's easy as the reader to hate her but had we been in her place we might be on her side honestly.
Hoping that the wolf family ends up staying, and living with everyone peacefully.

this is something I've been saying for ages. In some hypothetical alternative world version of Oren's forge, if we followed Her story and saw the world from her perspective. Instead of asking 'is hemlock going to kill the pups' we'd be asking "is Rask really a good guy or is he just biding his time to kill the kits" and "Was he really protecting the hollow or just protecting his territory from the other marten?"
All the stuff we take for granted about this story is that we trust Rask and care about him because it's told in a way to encourage that empathy and trust of his character. But from Hemlock's perspective, she's only known hunters who kill and use their wits only to deceive so they can kill her kind. So while I do like Rask a lot as a character and I think he's honest about his change, I think that it's a lot for us to ask Hemlock just accept him given all of her life experiences.
I am hoping that slowly he's making her change her mind about hunters, you consider he's probably the only one she's ever met that's even attempting to relate to her on a personal level. I hope for the future but I guess we'll see how far Hemlock can grow.

And Hemlock decided on mercy. Honestly good on her, I couldn't really hold it against her if she decided otherwise because she would have a pretty valid reason to not want more wolves around but still. She likely gave them the Rask treatment, aka if you run and don't come back you can live.
My one concern at this point that I haven't seen anyone else comment on yet. What if Hemlock spared the cubs to use as bait? Of course, she probably didn't expect two wolves to show-up at once...
I hope we get to revisit this scene, but I suspect killing children was a bridge too far, even for Hemlock. Or there might have been external factors (ie, Rask showing up, though I don't see her listening to him. She didn't before, I don't see why she would start now. I didn't see anything which suggests there was another fight.) But I would very much like to see how that scene played out.
had to look this expression up, teaching me things <3
As hoped there was still a mother in there. Hemlock could not kill pups just for the sake of it.
Sadly the story those 2 pups will have to regal how their uncle Seral was killed (pure trauma for the pups for sure) by a mere rabbit will be hard to swallow for Red. But Swift learned already that in this forest prey have "teeth" and will fight. As she said to Red they need to flee as the other pack will not stop and this forest is even more dangerous.
I still hope that Rask comes by and will talk to Swift again now that the threat to her pups is no more and she is clear of mind.
Also just to be the bearer of bad news. Red and Swift please look up where Teagan put the crow and the scared pup panel as Hemlock is still about and you 2 will not have the puppy plot armor.

Something made Hemlock think twice…now I want to know what/why. I’m glad she spared the pups.
As I realizede when I looked at the panels Teagan kept the right side of those stones well hidden by the crow and than the 2 pups panel. Hemlock could have used them as bait to get the adults. Even if I hope that it was the heart of a mother that stayed her spear.
I’m waiting for the other shoe to drop, where Hemlock with the spear, and up in a tree, spouts off fair warning to the rest.
Cause I cannot imagine her not departing the scene of the crime without shooting her muzzle off

Isn't there something like a "verbalization speed language barrier" between prey and predator? So unless she remembers that, she's just going to sound like a sped-up teacher from the Peanuts.
Thank goodness Hemlock spared them. Though I think this is not over...
I'm glad Hemlock spared the cubs. I knew she was better than this.
