Compiled most of the photos I posted on twitter https://x.com/Pregfur into one progress/soft tutorial image.
I call it a soft tutorial because it assumes the viewer already has some basic sewing experience.
This is version 1.0 as I will be making a new one with what I learned from this one. Time wise from plastic wrap -> semi-finished bag I'd say maybe 16 hours and generously about $40 in cloth and zipper (I already had thread, needles and the sewing machine).
These are *NOT* affiliate links. Simply showing what machine and zipper I used :3
I used a Singer 4423 sewing machine: https://www.amazon.com/SINGER-Inclu...../dp/B003VWXZQ0
I used a #10, 28 Inch Zipper https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0BP5STD1D
The #10 refers to 10mm, which is the width of the zipped teeth. They are very heavy duty and used for tents and sleeping bags.
I do not claim to be an experienced sewer, this bag is about the cap of my skill (no pun intended) but I'd be happy to answer any questions :3

Nicely done! Making patterns is hard. The zipper guard is a really good idea. Can't wait to see v2!
Oh hey, I have the same sewing machine. It's a BEAST. It's easily sewn through every fabric I've thrown at it. Though I also do not claim to be an experienced sewer. ;3

I love it too BUT I wish it had a hand crank so I can easily spin by hand when I need precise speed control. Gripping that circle knob is hard when you've been sewing for hours!
That's a really good point. I've been avoiding hand cranking because it's so unwieldy. Some of my tight corner seams have definitely suffered because of it though. No joke I might be picking up something like this in the future:
