Sorry that the requests are taking so long, I’ve been “busy” with work. “Busy” in quotations, I have free time at work it’s just that I can’t exactly bring my drawing tablet to work, and even if I did, it would be really awkward drawing nsfw with my colleagues around. So I thought I’d write something.

A couple of days ago, I was with my niece doodling stuff and talking about life. And suddenly her mom came in and asked what we were doing. My niece told her we were drawing and that, if she tried hard enough, she could grow up to be an artist. Her mom had a chuckle and said: “artist? Who needs artists? Ai can do it better.”
At that moment I could feel my blood boiling. I’m not someone who gets angry easily.
What was the cause of this, what was I so angry about?
To be honest, I don’t even know. Ai was like a flash bang to me back in 2021 and my eyes are still blurry from that blinding light. I never really dug into Ai too deep because it got political so fast, and I find that my mental health was better when I don’t think about politics (it’s not like I give a shit about trump and Biden, because I’m not American). But talk about Ai constantly creeped inside my life, to the point I felt like I was being forced fed facts about Ai, and I feel like if I don’t talk about it I might explode.
Before I start ranting, know that these are just my opinions, and that I am definitely wrong on so many things. Whenever we talk about humans or things related to humans, it’s almost never black and white, and is always a thousand shades of gray. Everything’s subjective.
First, I want to say that our current Ai is not “intelligent”, it’s an idiot with an infinite amount of space to store data. It didn’t ace the test because it had great reasoning skills, it aced the test because it knows the answer to every question on earth in its mind. And I cringe anytime I hear someone say:”omFg, Ai hAs feElingS aNd a wiLl to liVe.”
Second, Ai is not evil. The thing that’s actually evil are the people who use it with malicious intent. From the people who steal artwork to train these AI’s, to the Ai-bros using it to do everything for them. People who are evil are not uncommon, in every nook and cranny on earth you will find people who are willing to to do the most disgusting things imaginable, all for the sake of power, fame, and money.
“It’s not a technological problem we have, it’s a human one” ——Charlie Brooker
Third. Ai is a TOOL, it is a tool for the creator to create. Tools are supposed to help you with work, not do it for you. There is a difference between “helping you” and “doing it for you”.
For some reason everyone believes the tale of how Ai will one day take over the world on its own, “it’s gonna take our jobs” the average salary man said, “it’ll do our jobs for us.” Said the Ai-bros, “it’s cheaper than using humans” said the big corporations. These people think of ai as either ‘benefiting them for doing it for them’, or ‘hurting them because Ai does it for them” without realizing that it isn’t a god.
Time and time again we see that Ai is not up to the task when we ask it to do complex tasks. I’ll admit, Ai art generator is cool and all, but it gets boring after a while because it looks so generic. Ai music generator is also cool, but I doubt it’ll make music that leaves an impact in my life like Colin Stetson did. And the new Ai video generator has got me hooked on those videos where they take memes and turn them into videos, but I’d rather die if had to see a whole movie made with only Ai generated videos.
Fourth, I don’t agree with people who say that using Ai art is inherently evil or lazy. As I said before, Ai is a tool for the artist, and as such it should be used creatively. Such as Alan resnick using Ai to distort photos and videos, making it feel unnatural and a type of lynchian horror https://youtu.be/TCpCEQYgW88?feature=shared.
We should use Ai to be creative and make art. But with the capitalistic mindset of companies, and the unwillingness of people who feel like they’re cheating when they us Ai, it’s kinda hard to find people who are open with experiment with Ai and creating something truly unique.
Last, I wanna say that the misuse of Ai is destroying the internet. We’re at a point where bots are having conversations with bots in the comment section of an Ai generated YouTube video. Tell me, do you think this Ai phase will last long? It’ll only take a while before every comment section is flooded with bots, Ai generated news articles, paintings, videos. And after making all that Ai sludge, the Ai model then goes back to eat more art what it has made, doing an oroboros.
It wouldn’t take long before the entire internet is just an Ai paradise, where Ai makes art then consumes it, wasting electricity for no reason, driving all the people off the internet and forcing them to touch grass. It’ll be hell on earth I tell ya.
Maybe we’ll put an end to it, or maybe we’ll have to restart the internet all over again.
ChatGPT has been out for three years, but all we have been doing is shouting over each other.
I feel angry, but it’s not aimed towards Ai, it’s towards the people misusing and misunderstanding it. It’s easier to say Fuck AI, but it’s more to it than that.

Refreshing to see an actually nuanced opinion on AI. Online I've seen the vast majority reduce the issue to "AI is bad and stinky!" (presumably adults, too) When it actually has practical uses of streamlining tasks in professional settings- animation, medical field, anything with normally monotonous tasks that would take an unnecessarily long time for the workers.
That mother has awful taste if she thinks AI art is ever better than human creativity and skill tho lol

Agreed. The big problem is with people who believe that AI is the second coming of Christ, a tireless slave who'll do everything for them so they can sit back and, I dunno, jerk off or something. Joke's on them, what will happen is what you described above: AI will start eating itself and will eventually implode.
The only solution is to think of it as a tool or, to be more precise, a jumping board. Creativity will always be in demand and if you can use AI to do mundane things - i.e., coloring a background or doing some research - but you still put in the effort to finish your work, people won't mind. Also, if you continue being anti-AI or use it ethically as a tool, you already won the battle; your work will be appreciated, while tech bros and opportunists will drown in the ocean of crappy AI content they create.
In your case, you drew an image and you put your thoughts into words, listing pros and cons. Simply put, you gave a shit. You're on the right track. Kudos!

I think a behavioral trait that's been around a long time that adds to it, the people who devalue craftsmanship, artists, makers. Because "factory made is just as good, and cheaper" not putting it together the higher cost IS because it's special. Sure it's 100 bucks for a crappy table, but a 900 hand made piece might last 10x longer. And you have something that can tell a story through marks, stains, memories. And passed down, or at the very least someone can pick it up at an antique store. And wonder what's its been through, who had it.
My grandfather was someone like that, they threw away leather covered poker chips back in the 70's or 80's a long time ago. and then replaced it with a chip set from a dollar store, not even a nice one. Finding no value in things, he did this often.
So people that say "why do you need artists?" Will never get the true value of the; history, memories, someone's soul and love, and the quality of said item. And simultaneously state that "oh you never make money in art", never will understood why we are creative as humans. That it's a normal pure human thing, to make music, dance, sing, and make art. But it's been changed to "money, a waste of time, business" and seen in a disposable way, and hence it's low value to a lot of normie populist and CEOs. Who decided what's popular, and sells the most. AI can replace it for cheaper costs.
That person also doesn't understand that the companies who runs the business, thinks the same. Thus taking away another natural human thing, and only making it about money. You're told from a young age that this behavior "isn't worth it, no money, something you grow out of". Not that it's coded in us to do what's pure hearted, for the people who make it's not some waste of time. It's what makes them a person.
I saw Dennis retweeted something about that last part, it just made me think a lot. I can't really go into the AI part, I'm pretty bold on my stances. BECAUSE we can't purely have free flow positive AI, the market and people who run the landscape run it through bias, and other means to take the human element and cut costs for no reason but greed. I can't in good faith talk about AI, because it's forced to be a hypothetical when talking about the society "could be". Doesn't mean they're isn't going to be a revolution to how it's going, i don't want to sound bleak. But it's sad how it is...

I agree. I think many people don’t realize that AI isn’t new. It existed as long as the original doom game, the original Zelda game, and probably existed longer. I know those weren’t as advanced, but that’s not why I commented
