In truth: I've always secretly loved flashy, impractical (and occasionally skimpy) armor, but it's real hard to justify it to the other half of my brain, which loves believable, realistic armor and weaponry.
One of the nice things about magic, however, is that for a small fee, you can pretty easily glamour your gear to look however you want - and it even offers a tactical advantage! After all, if you could obfuscate the true reach of your weapon / shape of your shield from the opponent with a simple illusion, why wouldn't you? Isn't it nice being able to see clearly from under a helm?

This is brilliant! I assume he started by making his helmet invisible, so he could see out of it better.
attach a condition to the glamour that it needs to be worn for it to activate duh
I'd be the guy that'd have my weapons, after I've learned them through weight and touch. Have all of them glamoured to look either completely normal, or absolutely tiny. Just to hide my presence.
Some more magic user tries to "detect magic" and suddenly grips their face screaming pain. Good way to take out the opponents

That's a really neat and tactical explanation for fancy impractical armor design. "Wait, you're giving away your actual shield and sword design to your enemy? Without forcing them to cast dispel illusions? Are you insane?"
...and of course -some- people would be all "Don't tell me you're really wearing clothing?"

Hell yes to both! The idea of revealing your actual gear to the enemy for free is wild.
And you'd better believe we've pulled the "nothing but an illusory disguise" bit once or twice ;3

Unless you wear a historically accurate armor from the medieval times or have godlike reflexes that will make you impossible to hit, chances are anything else you will wear will instantly show the enemies your vulnerable and most sensitive spots to slash your limbs or head and instantly kill you (No videogame hp bar, sorry)
This made me giggle. A very silly concept, that these two are perfect for portraying.
"HOW ARE YOU ALIVE?"
"What part of 'rogue relying on stealth' do you Not Understand?"

He could have an illusion of him wearing full armour. No one would expect him to suddenly vanish or being so silent.
For it to work he would need a lot of teamwork with the real heavy fighter to intercept the enemy heavy fighters for him and so on.

I feel called out. I always forget to give my characters helmets for battle. 😅
Bloody plate wearers, always failing to understand the art of not being where the pointy bits are ;)
This is why the way of the rogue is BEST. We get to look good WITHOUT finger-wiggly bullshit and whenever an uppity mage says otherwise, a blade in the kidney soon shuts them up >:)

Now we need the other side of this d4 where they use illusions to walk around naked in public, so it looks like they're wearing clothes but aren't.
Shoot, I'm not sure if we've done any proper art of it, but I did a quick doodle last time it went awry: https://dl.dropbox.com/scl/fi/ye4qo.....o2no8&dl=0
I look forward to maybe some proper art then, also great doodle~. Love your antics so much x3
