You've heard all about her, listened to me pine for her for years now and celebrated her liberation from a trump 2020 landscaper's family back in 2018. Well she's on the road and learning her temperment~ Pretend I already have her painted pink this pride month, yeah?

mhm! before the early 1980s, the Cadillac emblems were actually different across the model tiers. for the most part its broken down like this: the Calais line is the entry level, DeVille is the main line, and Fleetwood Brougham and Eldorado are the flagship. of course that's all broken down into coupes and sedans and hardtops and convertibles and wagons kr whatever like the other GM divisions.
Calais uses only the crest across its emblems and usually did not come with hood ornaments, instead the crest is glad on the front over the grille. DeVille uses the crest and a wide V chevron underneath it. this was most prominent in the late 1950s and early 1960s but it carried on to this gen. Fleetwood and Eldorado use the Wreath & Crest that you know Cadillac by, and everything used from 1983-ish to 2000.
1977 is an interesting year, because the DeVille came with this version of the crest which is known as the "skeletal" crest in Cadillac circles, as its just the outline. it also came with 1-year only tail lights that are in the style of 1969's one year only "lantern" lights. mine also happens to be missing the V under the trunk lock crest, so it kind of looks like a 1977 Calais....which is pretty cool actually! Seeing as the triple blue and white is just a bit too much blue for me and it needs new paint anyways. They're kinda just full-size models, after all. You can build them however you want.
i could also go on and on about how frequently the way in which "DeVille" has been stylized; de ville, de Ville, DeVille, Deville, etc. all ebbing and flowing with what the perception of old money elegance is at the time.
