A fearless warrior general serving under the Emperor's rule. Known as the strongest in all the land, able to go against an entire army with just his horse and his beloved spear. It was sad that whenever he swung it, he would level mountains. A god amongst men and one who had sworn eternal fealty to the Emperor… at least at the beginning.
Despite the fact that poets portrayed him as a gallant and honorable hero on the battlefield, it was far from the truth. He was a savage and cruel warrior without mercy; he would destroy anything and anyone in his path to victory. He would laugh as he trampled upon the innocent, watching their despair at seeing their land burn to ashes.
The Emperor knew of his true colors, but let him be as long as he turned his weapon against their enemies; but he not even the most powerful man in the nation could hold this particular raging tiger by the tail forever. Longwei knew how much the people praised him; he started questioning his position. Why was the Emperor being shown more importance and respect than him when HE had been the one right and conquering. It had been HIM who had expanded the kingdom! Not the frail man wearing fancy clothes, who surrounded himself with a bunch of equally pathetic men. Longwei stared to become defiant of the Emperor's orders, and soon, he's long for freedom and power grew.
Everything culminated on his last war campaign when he claimed the newest conquered land under his name instead of the Emperor's. When he was told to know his place. He made his forces defect the empire right then and there. This marked the beginning of his own ambitious plan to annihilate the Emperor's forces and invade the capital so he could claim the throne for himself.
The battlefield became a bloodbath. The Emperor's forces fell left and right under Longwei’s might. Back at the imperial palace, plans had already been made for the soon arrival of Longwei's army to claim what he believed was his. The Emperor's councilmen scorned the warrior’s arrogance, but none of them could deny that their doom was fast approaching. Hope remained though. One of the Emperor's most beloved courtesans had heard rumors about the warriors insatiable hunger for carnal pleasure. She had also heard about how he favored a particular type of companion inside his bedchambers, and with this information she decided to convey her plan to the Emperor.
Within Longwei's army, there were those who were still loyal to the Emperor and there where also those who just wished for his demise for his cruelty, so when the plan to bring his madness to stop infiltrate the camp, a lot of them joined in with the preparations to take in in motion the same night before they invaded the imperial city. Back at his tent, Longwei was surprised by a mysterious midnight visitor. A warrior came to tell him he looked forward to see him take his proper place inside the royal palace and expunge those cretins currently inhabiting it. Longwei loved the praise, but wasn't deeply moved. He was about to reprimand him for interrupting his alone time, but when the warrior removed his helmet and revealed his beautiful face, Longwei had to take a good look at him, and without a doubt, he was just a gorgeous young man.
The beautiful warrior saw the effect his face had on the general and started unfastening his armor while he kept on praising and worshiping Longwei's ego. Fully naked, this “midnight flower”, got close enough to disrobe the disarmed general as his song of praises whispered sweet words in his ears. Lust overtook Longwei, his hubris swollen as much as his member, ready to make his “midnight flower” bloom. What the general didn't know was that this little flower was poisonous. And as he was ravishing his fair soft body, he never felt the prickle on his skin from the poison being injected on him until it was too late. It started with dizziness, then his breathing started becoming ragged from feeling his chest stuffed with fabric. Doubling over, he vomited blood, finally realizing what had been done to him.
Grabbing his spear with mighty fury, he ripped apart that treacherous flower. His blood covering his body as it mixed in with his own. At this point, more soldiers come rushing in, they know he's getting weak, they think they could take him, but they can't. Longwei's wrath is a raging thunder, he can't believe this pathetic, good for nothing man of his dared betrayed him. With monstrous strength and a primal scream, he eliminates every single one of them. Bodies and pieces of them fall left and right. He can't longer see due to his own blood blinding him, but if he could, he would be able to see the pool of blood around him. His mouth tastes like iron and vile from spitting out his own guts, but he just keeps moving forward, in his mind, the doors to the imperial city are just at hand's reach. Just a couple more steps and he'll be there, he'll make them pay for making a mockery of him, just a little bit longer until he arrives… But he never did, he never even managed to get out of his camp before he collapsed for one last time. His face facing down on a bloody puddle, marking the end of his legend.
Soon after, his downfall served to prove that no one could ever go against the Emperor. The heroic stories about Longwei turned into cautionary tales, becoming an infamous figure for many; but for some, he also became a symbol of rebellion against the stagnant empire, and as more rebellious movements started becoming more prominent. Speaking his name became a criminal offense, but the thirst for change remained and was passed along to the people.
After many more wars, a new Emperor took over, and made massive improvements for the better. The people was happy and with this new tomorrow, Longwei's story fell into obscurity. Maybe because of the new Emperor's dislike for war, there weren't many warriors taking care of the beasts on the roads. Attacks on humans became more often and put the nation on alert. Monsters were the biggest issue, once hidden, they now roamed the roads freely. One in particular stands out from the rest though, a monumental jiangshi brandishing a Guandao has been seen surprising travelers and foreign adventurers on their way to the capital. He would then ask them where they are from, before suddenly attacking them to absorb their qi regardless of their answer. Testimony from the encounters attest of his fighting prowess and his strength, showing some praise for those who managed to resist his assault with their own skills, and swiftly draining those who he sees as “worthless”. For those born at the capital, he shows great contempt, and he quickly kills them in very violent ways, not even bothering to collect their qi.
The most shocking piece of information is the fact that he keeps on calling himself Longwei, making those who still remember him wonder if he is back in order to finish what he started. But how was that possible? According to the legend his corpse had been said to have been torn into pieces; a different limp having been sent to a different province to stimulate fear amongst those who dared go against the old Emperor.
There were body parts put on display, that was true, but they didn't belong to Longwei. Those body parts were from a convict closely resembling his appearance. His real body had been sent to the taoist priests to be turned into an undying bodyguard for the emperor as a way of penance and to fulfill his vow of eternal servitude under the Emperor's rule.
The preparations had been made and the ritual was executed, but when Longwei opened his eyes, deep inside him, the flames of hatred still raged like an all consuming inferno. He immediately went into a rampage; and despite all the mystical restraints, he managed to slaughter almost everyone in the room before being stopped by the head priest who was able to bind him. The ritual was deemed to be a failure and Longwei was sealed away inside a hidden cave hidden deep in the mountains.
The wars that soon followed made those involved forget about the incident; and as the old dynasty gave way to the new one. Longwei’s prison place remained hidden for years. As time passed, the power of the sealing talisman dwindled, and Longwei was able to free himself. His time of forced seclusion had done something to him though. He couldn't remember anything, he just knew he felt angry, very much so, but above all that, he hungered.
He roamed the mountains and started hunting for prey with vast amounts of qi. The more he consumed, the more he regained some semblance of his former self along with his name, but the reason as to why he was in his current condition still eluded him. He just knew he hated the imperial city and anyone who lived there which gave him his motivation to start tormenting them, but even that became boring with time. Everyone was too weak and pathetic.
As the new Emperor opened his land to foreigners, Longwei came into contact with various warriors traveling from faraway lands. Each stronger than the last. His desire to prove himself superior in combat to humiliate them reinvigorated him. And ever since, he now challenges anyone visiting the capital from afar. Looking for the one who can quench his lust for conflict and one who gets as intoxicated by the thrill of it as much as him. And if they prove to me no match, well, then they'll provide fine substance for him to devour and move on with his eternal search.
