Before Emma could scream for help, she was cuffed to a wall in a large sterile white chamber. A few feet in front of her was Dr. Orion, observing the guards as they finished attaching the restraints.
"Just what the hell do you think you're doing? Release me now! Where's Sofia?" Emma shouted.
"Don't worry you will meet your friend soon enough. But before we can do that, I want to give you a quick demonstration of this state-of-the-art medical facility" Dr. Orion responded
"Oh yeah, what are you gonna do? Take out my kidney stones?" Emma asked sarcastically.
"You underestimate how advanced our lab is. It would take the government 10 years to develop this technology on their own. We, however, already have a working prototype." he boasted proudly.
"Alright well good for you. But what does this have to do with me?" she asked.
"Oh that's the fun part, my dear. This machine has the ability to adapt DNA from one organism and transfer it into another. You will be our... uhm- second test subject. I have decided however to make it unique this time." Dr. Orion pointed toward an octopus in an aquarium.
Emma was confused by what he meant. "An octopus? What's that supposed to mean?"
"Don't worry you will find out soon enough. Just relax and don't strain yourself." Dr. Orion began powering up the machine.
Emma struggled against the restraints. "Please, you can't do this to me! I'm just a girl, not some experiment!" she pleaded, her voice trembling with fear.
"Ah, but that's where you're wrong, my dear. You're the key to unlocking a new frontier in science," Dr. Orion replied, his voice chillingly calm as he flicked a switch.
A jolt of excruciating pain shot through Emma's body, her screams echoing off the lab's cold walls. The transformation was unbearable, her lower body contorting and reshaping. She felt her skin stretch and morph, an intense heat engulfing her as sweat poured down her face.
"It's... it's hurting me! MAKE IT STOP!" Emma cried out, tears streaming down her cheeks.
"The path to evolution is often painful, but necessary," Dr. Orion said, impassively observing the transformation.
Emma's legs began to fuse and elongate, splitting into multiple, sinuous tentacles. The sensation was alien and horrifying. When she lost her balance, she could feel the new limbs, cold and slippery, writhing beneath her, independent and uncontrollable. As the transformation concluded, Emma lay exhausted, both physically and emotionally. Her breaths came in panicked gasps as she gazed down at her transformed body. Where her legs once were, now sprawled a cluster of wriggling tentacles.
"No, this isn't real. This can't be happening," she gasped, the reality of her transformation setting in. "WHAT HAVE YOU DONE TO ME?"
Dr. Orion ignoring her screams, was fascinated by the transformation. "Perfect, absolutely perfect. You're a masterpiece," he said, admiring his work.
As the machine finally powered down, Emma lay there, a fusion of woman and octopus, her breaths short and panicked. The sight of her new body filled her with a profound sense of horror and disbelief.
"WHAT HAVE YOU TURNED ME INTO?! I'M A MONSTER!" Emma cried, tears streaming down her face.
"Monster? No, you are a masterpiece of genetic engineering," Dr. Orion replied, his tone cold and devoid of empathy.
"Turn me back at once!" Emma exclaimed, her voice laced with horror and anger.
"Unfortunately I can't do that. The fusion between human and octopus is challenging and requires permanent changes in the biology of the individual to accommodate the transformation. To do that, the machine had to turn you part invertebrate and part mammal. Easy to combine but very difficult to seperate once together."
Emma burst into tears. "YOU'RE LYING!"
"The technology will be eventually developed. However, in the meantime, we still have plenty of research to do. Eventually, you'll appreciate your new form," Dr. Orion said, turning away to make notes.
Emma's heart ached with a profound sense of loss. Yet, amid her despair, a fire kindled within her. She refused to be a victim of this madman's experiment.
"I will not let you keep me here. I will find a way back," Emma declared, her voice steady despite her fear.
Dr. Orion simply chuckled, leaving her alone in the lab.
