Aphrodite, the goddess of love, was officially married to Hephaestus, god of fire, blacksmithing and volcanoes. But Ares, the god of war, was far more attractive to Aphrodite and so they began a passionate affair while Hephaestus was always at work.
One evening, Ares ordered the young soldier Alectryon to stand guard in front of the door of a house or his bedroom, where Ares and Aphrodite could indulge their passions.
However, Alectryon fell asleep (due to Hypnos, the god of sleep) and Helios, the sun god, surprised the two of them during their sexual activity the next morning.
Ares was so angry at Alectryon, who had fallen asleep on his watch, that he punished him by turning him into a rooster so that he would never forget to announce the sunrise.
This is how ancient times explained why roosters crow at sunrise.
With Hero Forge I designed the rooster Alectryon and Ares, the god of war.
