Dammit I love him so much ever always indeed! Actually each tentacle has kinda a half-mind way on their own besides the central master mind on the octopus main body, this was used as a unique joke on the 2023 live-action on the movie on a time when Ursula is seeking for the thing she needs to disguise herself as human to foil Ariel's attempt on kissing the prince and she kinda was talking to each of her tentacles when seeking for the key-ingredient she needed then. (On the original animated movie, she didn't waisted time on that and already knew where was the yellow butterfly she used to became into Vanessa.). So makes sense that Ursulo is enjoying a lot with his tentacles which kinda had their own mind on themselves indeed!
That fun little fact about octopus' was definitely the inspiration for this piece. :)
Yeah I read the description and it's very nice! Octopus and the other cephalopods are quite actually very interesting and highly complex creatures on their own, they trully match properly the ideas of "aliens" inspiring some classical sci-fi/cosmic-horror themes somehow indeed, because their special evolution had made them soo much above most of the marine vertebrates in the water - except the ones coming from earth-before as reptiles, birds and even mammals - so much above all fishes and other marine invertebrates, including the other mollusks groups they come from!! Thus they're oddily so much alike humans or their vertebrate closer land ancestors or relatives (as reptiles, birds and all non-human mammals are) and yet also different coming from a very different evolutionary path (the mollusks are so very separate from the chordates/vertebrates group actually). Therefore it's always very interesting to knew stuff about them and their other close relatives in the group as squids, cuttlefish and nautiluses among others rarer (as the vampyr squid).
