Like many universities, Grimaldi hosted all kinds of activities during the Halloween season for its student body.
Given the prevalence of candy and sexy costumes, it was important to provide a healthy outlet.
In Sadie's estimation, most of the school hosted activities weren't particularly good.
Take for example the haunted pumpkin patch the university organized. The school had decided to save money on pumpkins by having the students use markers instead of knives. Then, the pumpkins were cleaned and reused.
No, you can't take your pumpkin home and carve it yourself, Miss Ambert. There's no candles allowed in the dorms.
Boo! Boo to that!
Still, half-assed university organized activities could be fun to wander around with friends. Something to do, anyway. An excuse to get out of the dorms and walk around in the crisp fall air.
And Felicity had never been to a haunted pumpkin patch.
"I am impressed that your school got real ghosts for their activity," Felicity said.
"It's just to make it sound spookier," Sable explained. "They didn't get actual ghosts."
Felicity frowned and stared off at nothing.
Sable followed her gaze and happened to spot someone familiar.
"Hey, is that Grace?"
Sadie looked where Sable was looking and saw a hot fox in a sexy little devil outfit. She was sitting on a giant jack o'lantern that had been carved to spooky up the place.
"What? My Grace? The little, seemingly shapeless nerd who hides her tits? Dressed as a sexy devil? Now that's the Halloween spirit!"
Sadie strode over. "Grace, you vixen! I'm so proud of your good taste in costume!"
Grace smiled widely. "Hi, Sadie!! You have a keen eye. This is indeed an accurate reproduction of the Demon Master costume from the Demon's Nefarious Designs made-for-TV movie! It only aired once but this bad girl has a bootleg on laserdisc!"
Sadie didn't respond. She just stared.
"The pitchfork is a toy from the Amphibi-Us movie that I painted red," Grace added, feeling like Sadie wanted to know the minutiae of how she made her outfit.
Sadie put her hand over Grace's mouth.
"I'm so conflicted," Sadie said. "You've taken the pure spirit of Halloween sexiness and made it about obscure nerd shit. But I like the bat boob window. Blugh, I'm going to go get some cider."
She walked off.
"Ooo, cider!" Sable followed her.
Felicity tarried, still seemingly staring at nothing.
"I don't think we've been formally introduced!" Grace chirped. "I'm Grace Hormel! Sadie and I were good pals in high school!"
"Hello, Miss Grace. I am Felicity, the Oracle. That is an... interesting outfit. But the ghosts seem to appreciate it."
"Thank you!" The weird statement splashed off Grace like water off a duck's back. "I made it myself. It's the Demon Master from the Demon's Nefarious Designs made-for-TV movie! Oo! Sadie may have told you that I'm putting together a Demon's Nefarious Designs group. Obviously, you're welcome to join as well!"
"No, Sadie has not mentioned that... But..." Felicity paused for long enough that it almost seemed that the conversation had just stopped. "... No. I feel it would not be wise for me to attend this game. I better find Miss Sadie..."
Grace was disappointed but her enthusiasm was untouched. "Let me know if you change your mind! Nice meeting you!"
With her new friend by the commutative property of friendship gone, Grace continued sitting on a giant jack o'lantern hoping someone else would comment on her costume so she could explain the wonders of the Demon's Nefarious Design made-for-TV movie which wasn't very good but it was fun in a so-bad-its-good cult classic kind of way.
"OooooooOOOooooo!" someone seemed to say, appreciatively. But when Grace looked around, there was nobody near her.
---
I got this on a whim, as I often do.
I thought I had enough Halloween themed pictures but then I saw an YCH in a devil costume and thought 'hey Grace should get to join in the fun.'
For whatever reason, the ghosts around Grimaldi seem particularly amorous. No wonder they'd congregate around Demon Master Grace.
Most of the students visiting the Grimaldi Haunted Pumpkin Patch didn't bother to dress up in costume. But Grace had her costume ready and she wanted to show off her hard work. And if she gets to work a cult classic fave of hers into some casual conversation, that'd be neat!
Aside from drawing faces on pumpkins in non-permanent marker and cider, the Haunted Pumpkin Patch also had a costume contest that Alyson got roped into as a judge. Half her job as judge was trying to round up enough people in costume to make it a contest. A projector was borrowed from the library to air Halloween the 31st Part V: Penultimate Eve on a big screen but the video file was corrupted.
It's not a great event but if it were me, I would have gone for the free cider.
