COMMENTARY
My second time doing Symji (spinotaur) and Floof (mage).
I had forgotten just how much this composition shifted from the approved sketch to the finished painting. Before, you would not have seen any part of Symji from below the neck (except for the claws). I was reminded of what a challenge it was figuring out how to give a sense of her body and how to get energy into her pose with the actual space in the frame being so tight.
At this time I was beginning to learn that pursuing hard edges (that is to say, trying to achieve smooth, sharp distinctions between objects or between objects and the background) as much as possible can lose you a lot of atmosphere.
