Around December 2021, I really got into Sonic the Hedgehog. Mainly the IDW Comics. Never really thought too much of the series up to that point- I played a lot of Sonic Adventure DX on the Gamecube as a kid, and I loved a lot of the music out of series despite not actively playing it, (Endless Possibilities and Dreams of an Absolution were on-loop favorites on my high school iPod) but otherwise I didn't really engage with it.
Then I decided to give the IDW Sonic comics a shot, figuring that IDW's done well by pony, so why not?
Needless to say for anyone who's followed my work on twitter the past two years, I got really into it.
While I'd done Mobian TFs before, particularly for Foxxy-TF (my TF art senpai), this was probably the first time I really leaned into it for myself. I was quite taken by Blaze the cat (surprise surprise) and figured that her fire abilities would make for an interesting compositional effect for a TF. A few hours later of impassioned drawing and I made this short two step sequence!
You can tell this is an early mobian drawing from me because of the proportions. I still hadn't quite settled on what I wanted, and while I tested three heads tall for a bit shortly after this, I found that it was just a bit too cartoony for my tastes. I would eventually settle on four heads tall- a good compromise between my general stylistic preference towards realism while retaining at least some of the look and feel of the Sonic/mobian style, which is pretty iconic to the series.
Now, if I had a nickel for every time I developed a TF crush on a magical purple princess who needs to learn the value of friendship, I'd have two nickels. Which isn't a lot but it's weird that it happened twice.

I remember first seeing Blaze in 2005. It was Christmas and I got my DS with Sonic Rush. I loved her character and powers and she was and still is just so cute and cool. Even when I read her in both Archie and IDW comics, she stays my favorite.
I'm just saying, you have great tastes in tf subjects and amazing art to showcase them.
