And to think, this artwork only came about 4 months after the original design I had for Mr. Reynard back in April of this year.
Well, as I made clear from the previous sketchbook doodles, I wasn't quite satisfied with how I drew my Team Rocket leader way back when, even if the design was enjoyable at the time. Felt like I could do a little better job on the anatomy and his overall outfit, not to mention adding his eyes back in- and overall, I'm very pleased with the final results of his tuxedo and elegant new cane.
Once again, shoutouts to Gaminglover on DeviantArt for the original TF sequence that inspired this OC (see here: www.deviantart.com/gaminglover…); go and check his page out, he's a great friend and a wonderfully diverse artist who needs more love.
Annnd just to reiterate a lot of the thoughts on Reynard as a character, he used to be your average Trainer who wanted to make friends with Pokemon and stop the bad guys, as you do. But a chance encounter with a Luxury Ball just laying about caught him unawares, and hypnotized him into becoming a classy Thievul gent who believes he's always been from Galar, and always been helping expand Team Rocket's scope across the planet with a new approach of using anthro Pokemon folks as their new workers. After all, what are human Trainers good for, apart from giving orders? So much more cost-effective to cut out the middleman, and let Pokemon lead other Pokemon. Some grunts may not like the idea at first, but they'll get with the program(ming) soon enough...
As a leader for Team Rocket, Reynard isn't much of a direct fighter; his Physical Attack leaves a lot to be desired, but it's his Speed and force of charisma that really give him an edge. The wily old fox has all kinds of surprises stored up in the specialty Poke Ball built into his cane topper, from Smoke Balls to capture nets to other Hypno-Ball variants that can snatch up targets at a moment's notice. Naturally, the cane's front button also functions as a hypnotic spiral emitter, one that's built to be even stronger than normal Hypno-Ball programs. His suave, Willy Wonka-like whimsy belies the cunning that's allowed Reynard to remain at the top for so long, as Boss of Team Rocket's "Cosmotropolis" hotel and HQ.
