I never thought I'd have a fursona but here we are. In the relatively short time I've had her, Rowena's come to mean a lot to me as a character. It's funny that she was conceived of as an "alternate" version of myself that stuck with anime/manga instead of diverting into ponies. And yet, here I am using her as a "present" face.
In many ways, I still hold onto those old aesthetics, themes, and ideas. I might have more artistic skill now, but stuff like Fullmetal Alchemist, Naruto, FLCL, Spirited Away, Castle in the Sky... They still had their impact on me. I guess in way Rowena's existence is acknowledging a crucial aspect of my growth as an artist that I never quite gave the time or consideration for, when I was still deep into ponies.
Either way, you can still expect a bunch of people (particularly myself) turning into the next furry waifu~

Oh, this is amazing. The composition, showing your influences, around the central piece where the background texturing is papered over by Rowena's presence? That's fantastic! Based on the description, the metaphor quite meaningful- this is what those influences layered up to, right?

This is such a cool approach to this conceptually, and one excellently performed! I love this!
As I mentioned to you before, the material overlaying of Rowena over you was such a cool idea. Wouldn't have been the same without all the textures you were using and the subtle shading along the torn edges of her paper. And there's something really beautiful about you drawing her parts directly onto her, too.
This is easily one of my most favorite pieces I've done this year ^^
Getting the multi-media look down was tricky but I'm glad it paid off. Now if I could've just pulled this off on some actual physical media... god, that would've been great!

I’m just kind of in awe of how squarely you hit the nail on the head with this one. Especially with online life, we’re all putting personas out there. We’re all presenting ourselves in different ways to different people/(sub)cultures whether it’s social media or dressing up for a job interview. I’ll also admit to being the kind of hack writer that has to base some core element of a character’s personality on myself. But yeah, it’s all performance.
