This is an idea that suddenly came to me for another pair of strange characters, this time both the same species but again different body types. I decided to make both of them arctic wolves, partly because I wanted to see if I could draw fur texture without showing any fur markings.
This is the first time I've drawn using a 4B pencil without having already drawin with a 2B pencil and the first time where I almost exclusively used a kneaded eraser except to lighten the rough outline I had drawn in a HB pencil.
The first arctic wolf took me a while to figure out so I don't have much of a backstory for her. I decided to make her headless. I don't have a name for her or much of anything else except that I thinking of making her born headless and feels like she doesn't need a head. Maybe once I've come up with a backstory I may draw an individual picture of her.
The second arctic wolf is a character that I've thought a lot more about. As I started drawing her and wanted to show the longer, shaggier fur of an arctic wolf I felt like she's a chubby, overweight character. If I done it right, she should still look cute. The hardest part was decided on her hair, I know I wanted her hair to be long with a wild look that has the impression of growing out of her fur but I didn't know what to do with her fringe. First I tried dreads, but that didn't seem inappropriate. Then I removed the fringe but that just made her look more like myself, then I just tried drawing just long hair and the way the hair looked seemed to fit who she is. I know I haven't drawn her proportions rights, I'm finding that I'm having trouble with drawing proportions, thinking I have it right only to find after finishing the drawing that I've gotten it wrong. She does seems the right height relative to her head, but her torso is too big and her legs are too short. I do have some backstory for her but nothing that's fully complete.
Her name is Aurora. She was conceived or born during intense aurora borealis, making her more... unusual. She's a hermaphrodite (as I've tried to show with a bulge) and has green eyes instead of amber eyes. She has magical powers, aurora powers, that's what's coming out of her paw. I haven't settled entirely on what aurora powers are, but I know I want part of her powers is the ability to sense emotions and the auras of other people. However, the magic does have another effect on her as she found out when growing up. She was starting to gain weight. Dieting or exercise did nothing to prevent her weight gain. She didn't know why she was becoming fat and it did upset her, made worse as the other arctic wolf cubs her age would tease and mock her for her weight gain. Her weight gain worried her parents, who tried everything he knew but nothing seemed to stop her weight gain. It was only after her parents took Aurora to a magic expert that she discovered that it was her link to magic that was the cause. Magic was reshaping her body, making her chubby, along with giving her more strength and larger bones so that the extra mass wouldn't affect her life. Why magic was reshaping her was that it was revealing her inner nature, being chubby is who she is, just as she's a hermaphrodite arctic wolf. This really made Aurora upset, not so much because of how her appearance was changing but how other people were treating her.
Aurora always had a sense of knowing how people felt about her, that she had this sense, like a glow that people had that helped her know that people were feeling. She thought it was a sense that everyone had. As she got older this sense was becoming stronger to the point where it started to affect her to the point where she became afraid of other people as their emotions could be too strong for her. That's when it was discovered that she was a natural empath, that she could sense the auras of other people. Her parents wanted advise on how Aurora could learn how to properly control and use her aura sensing ability. That was when they were introduced to a small headless community. This headless community agreed to help.
Aurora was taken to meet with this community. Aurora was scared, as the idea of anyone being headless was intimidating to her, but her fears quickly disappeared when she met the headless arctic wolf girl. She's around the same age as Aurora, who felt surprised by the headless arctic wolf because of how easy it was for her to sense her communicating with her. The headless arctic wolf noticed that something was odd about Aurora, she had a sense of warmth coming from her, something that most people with heads don't have as strongly. As she is headless, she has no concept of appearance and so had no idea that Aurora is overweight. All she knew was how she sensed and knew there was something about Aurora, something that gave her a feeling that she liked. She wanted to give Aurora a hug. Aurora felt scared, so far the headless arctic wolf was friendly towards her, but if she hugged her, she would know that Aurora is chubby. This didn't stop the headless arctic wolf, who then suddenly wrapped her arms around Aurora, pulling her into a hug. That was when Aurora discovered why she was chubby. It made her cuddly. Hugging her felt relaxing and comfortable, almost... magical. The headless arctic wolf told her how amazing it felt to hug Aurora and that Aurora really should hug more people. Aurora then started to open up more towards other people, ready to give a hug to anyone who wanted a hug. She and the headless wolf girl became close friends and as the two became older, the two of them became a couple.
