The inspiration here came from a very charming and underrated musical film version of Exupéry's The Little Prince, with some fine songs by Lerner & Lowe. This opening song is sung by the Aviator, played by Richard Kiley, the original Man of La Mancha.

The movie also features legendary choreographer Bob Fosse as the Snake, in a very sinister, slithery number that gives Trust in Me a run for its money, and Gene Wilder giving an incredibly touching and understated performance as the Fox who delivers the story's moral.
