The Travelers, an ancient race predating humanity. They had spread across our galaxy, leaving their ruins well hidden away, but even so, a gene-vault had been discovered in the Solar system. But more than gene splicing had come out of the discovery, the location of another system with Traveler technology. If humanity could be shown without a shadow of a doubt that something else was out there, alive or dead, there was a chance to stop this war. To unite humanity with the need to discover, or perhaps defend.. It was a shot in the dark, a wild haymaker with astronomically low chance of success... But Joji had Traveler blood, and their technology responded to her. She was the best, only, hope of humanity finding some sort of redemption amongst the stars.
Where the Travelers went was a mystery, one not answered immediately when she arrived at the ruins in Alpha Centauri. On the perpetually dark world of Coriolis, and with the assistance of a long dormant AI she ventured deep into the complex built into a bio-luminescent fungus jungle. Down there she found a profound and disturbing discovery.
A structure of Triangular shape, the lines on the walls growing brighter with power as she approached. Cyan energy swirling as the device at the zenith of the triangle came alive. Like liquid filling a container, an image spread from the center outward. Beyond this strange mirror was a different structure. This one made of stone instead of metal and concrete. Braziers burst to life two at a time going down the great stone steps deeper in what looked like a temple from Earth's ancient history. But Joji's attention was fixed on the only creature in the image...
Joji stood in the temple, watching in awe as the braziers burst to life. The stone triangle swirled with color, before solidifying into an image where she saw... Herself. Another Joji stood, looking confused, afraid, and in wonder. This Joji wore an orange body suit with some sort of helmet, but even through the glass she could see her face, her OWN face.
Cautiously the two approached one another, as if looking at herself in a mirror. Looking past the cloths, into each other's eyes as the realization that they saw those eyes in every reflection through their life dawned on them. Slowly, unbidden, in the same heart beat, they reached for one another. They had the need to touch the mirror, to confirm it was all a illusion, a reflection, none of it was real.
Like a curtain of rippling water, the mirror parted. She felt the rough fabric of the suit against her bare fingers, just as the other girl felt the dampened warmth through hers.
Heyo all! This has been a piece i've been VERY excited for! A visualization of a scene yet written within my story of Adrift, the linking of SciFi and Fantasy!
This was done by leoria, who I may or may not have put such a huge vision on her shoulders! For that Leoria, I'm very sorry for any stress or worry!
But you did NOT disappoint! You've out done yourself, and I'm so happy with how it turned out you wouldn't believe!! For me, art really helps inspire story writing, and this was such a big moment in my mind's eye that I've ground to a halt trying to figure out how to get there! Now, work permitting, i'll be inspired to do it again, and finish out the adventure of a certain cat girl through space and time~!
