Hello there! It's been a while, I know. Moved recently, and just finally got around to setting up my own space to record and do some shit. Fiddled with the guitar until something cool came out, and then tried desperately to write something -not- depressing. Tried to write about a DnD character at first, but that just felt forced and lame. Didn't want to do another love song, even though I love my partner dearly. So I, uh. Ended up with this. About, uh... someone I don't like, I guess. Hope it's up to the level I feel like I was at releasing stuff a couple years ago! Would hate to have slid back in quality or something.
Lemme know what you all think!
- Lyrics -
i sat down
at your altar
held my breath
while you ventilated
all my fears
all my six-foot-deep ambitions
made me hear
all the things i dont want said
close my eyes and cloud my head
take a deeper breath
pull myself away again
and avoid it
spitting blood for you again
and i still bite my tongue
theres nothing i can do with this
im tired
scream into the void again
my hollow pleading
cant we just move on from this
please
its the same
i can feel it
grip me by the throat
watch your eyes
as i freeze
ice inside my bloodstream
the superficial smile falls away
i watch you
i watch me
and i hear everything
pin my eyes and claw my head
i cant catch my breath
pull away my flesh again
and expose it
spitting blood for you again (leave me be)
and i still bite my tongue (my reflection)
theres nothing i can do with this (always says these awful things)
im tired
scream into the void again (let me go)
my hollow pleading (let me go)
cant we just move on from this
please
FUCK

That's one hell of a track to drop from out of NOWHERE!
Nice to hear your voice again. Love the writing, love the instrumentation, and I LOVE the way you've done your vocals here. The overlapping vocal lines in the final chorus really made the main vocals pop out ^^.

Well! I wanted to do something... i dunno, more than just a cover? I've got a few of those in my back pocket I could still put up, but after two years of no music I felt like I shoulda done more!
I'm glad the overlapping worked! I think I coulda done better recording it but I'd already sorta reached the limit of what I wanna put into any one song, so it is what it is~. Wanted it to be screaming intially, but I couldn't find the harsh vocals I wanted by the time I kinda grew tired of working on it. <.<
In any case! Thank you for the kind words!!

As someone who sometimes falls into the trap of putting way too much work into a single track...I get it. As someone who hasn't posted any new music in 3 year, I definitely get that too.
Scream vocals come with a lot of extra work when it comes to mixing. They're fun and interesting, and can definitely add some real impact to a track (especially an acoustic one like this). I've used them on exactly one track that I've posted, and it was such a chore with the equipment I had at the time xD. It might be better with the stuff I have nowadays, but I suppose that will have to wait until I've got something worth recording them for.
I'm gonna say what everyone always says - and don't pretend you didn't see it coming...but you should record and post more if you're feeling up to it! Singer/Songwriters playing physical instruments is sort of in deficiency in the fandom, after all .

I feel like I should do that at least once. =.= I've fallen into a pattern of never really spending more than four or five hours on a song, from drafting guitar to finishing recording. This one I spent a couple days on, but there's still some polish thay could be better. Better vocal takes, better mixing, that kinda thing. Maybe one day I'll spend far too long on a track just to see what comes out the other side. >.>
And yeah! I definitely learned a lot trying to make them sound better than they do. Unfortunately the technique doesn't really measure up to what makes harsh vocals sound best, so this song and it's content are really the only space I can probably get away with what I sound like atm. Whiny, I mean. :P
And yeeeaaah, I knoooooowwwww. The main blockage is, like, the music and production aspect, tbh. I -love- doing vocals and writing lyrics for the most part. Having to come up with chords or picking patterns when I'm very very average at best with guitar is... uugggh. =.= And then having to do more than just hit record to get something decent sounding at the end is just even more uuugggghhhhhhhhh. I dunno. I'm whining, but I do want to do more! And now I have a proper office space with acoustic foam, an eq program I use for my mic, and some time and privacy. I -should- be able to create some more stuff, and more consistently! I hope, anyway~. :3

I could throw together some guitar tracks from doodles I've got kicking around in my brain and see if any of them catch your attention. The guitar is the easier part for me, and I don't have an active musical project at the moment. With a little luck we might stumble on a couple ideas that let you focus on singing.

That's so flattering, thank you so much! I'm always so anxious about my lyricism because my favorite writers are so, so dense and clever. I'm glad that these hit in some kinda way.
