Comic - Male vs female dragons
I remember seeing some people talk about how it's impossible to tell the difference between male and female dragons. But, I wouldn't think so! I would imagine that dragons uses their other senses more than just their sight, like dogs or dinosaurs do! (Don't quote me on that, my little brother is a self proclaimed raptor expert and told me that.) Female and male dragons probably smell different, maybe due to pheromones or something, I'm not an animal expert.
Personally, I draw my male and female dragons visually differently as well! I give female dragons with shorter snouts and give them cute eyelashes like the cliche artist I am. (This doesn't apply to all, like Yoru has a long snout)
What do you guys think?

Dragon fur is considered the premium of all softness, and only those worthy enough are able to touch it!
W-wait! I didn't mean to be rude!
...what if mutual small pats? <:0

Agreed! It's easy for other dragons to tell, by scent. Though that may not work for other species trying to tell us apart >>
Exactly! Other inferior species would have a tough time telling the difference...
*scoffs* how rude of them to assume they can touch and pet your fur. Ask permission!
*Ahem* may I feel it?

I never thought of it this way, heh! Makes sense for it to be based off smell rather than sight without having to rely on other measures.
Exactly! Dragons even have a 6th sense, of course they will utilize other senses than just what the eye can see!
But.
I have eyelashes D=
... What's your floof secrets care ? ><

You have eyelashes? Well congrats, you are officially a girl lmao
Nothing wrong with a male if you can be a gentleman and behave nice
Touching female dragons without their consent can really go wrong and behavior would be negative eventually.
May... may... maaaaay I cuddle against it and purr like a kitten???
Very fluffy indeed!
As for my kind, we have long stringy sensory organs, you would call them antennae, we have four and they can sense the faint differences in-... yeah, actually, my kind only had one gender so it never really... mattered to us. We do have a keen sense of 'smell' though through our antennae.

you do looks nice when you have excess fluff. make you cute and adorable. wonder what happens in shedding season hahahahah. I seem to be able to tell male from female tbh. never had an issue. guess im a dragon hence i can tell xD. i wanna touch too
My species of dragons have two very specific ways to tell that is invisible to the untrained eye but obvious to those that know what to look for. Other than that, just as mysterious!
Oh come on! You give me that little nugget of information, and don't even share it?
>:) How do they tell?
>:) How do they tell?
Males have two rows of spines, whether simple spikes, fins, or similar going parallel to their spine down their neck, one on the left and one on the right. Females can have neck spines as well, but they just cannot be in the exact same location. It can be confusing when they have rows of spines very close to where the males do, but if you know what specific area on the neck they grow for males you are able to tell.
Females also have a pair of scales that grow near the tip of their chin. These are unique in that once the dragoness is carrying eggs for the first time, they fall off and stop growing back. Dragons have yet to discover why this happens among their kin, but they have, as a result, been called maidenscale and are frequently set in precious metals for one of each of the pair to wear to display their matehood like an engagement ring!

Can I just say that maidenscales are the cutest idea I have seen on this site by far?! I absolutely love the concept of giving it like an engagement ring and having it be a symbol of matehood. I seriously cannot stop gushing about it in my head, I'm imagining so many cute scenes!
I'm particularly proud of the maiden scale honestly. It felt like a really unique idea at the time. I can absolutely see it being cute too. Imagine the squee when the dragoness of a couple trying to start a family suddenly feels her maidenscale fall off like a baby tooth.
Also adds some potential for a unique culture in some ways. Don't stare at a dragoness' maiden scale too long if you're a male or she might think you're entertaining naughty thoughts and you'll get clawed. XD

Would I be allowed to touch the fluff? It Looks so much more fluffly than my fluff q.q
okay q.q so there is no prove that it is really fluffy it is just word of maw then?
Not really, males can also have fluff! But I would assume for females it would be more protruded!
I always enjoyed a shorter snout on a lady. C:
Nice cute and pretty. ^_^
Nice cute and pretty. ^_^
I think it's super cute as well! You can tell it's something I like lol
The fluff looks like a great way to hide smaller friends. Just lay on them and they vanish!
I'm glad I stumbled upon your art just recently. I'm really loving the style!
