You pretty much have to play the game to understand this at all.
Haha, this is not what I expected to see on Valentine's Day. Disturbing. I like it though.
I was a little disappointed to watch the sublime WTFery of the few opening areas (probably up to the blood caverns) start to peter off as a cohesive narrative started to take shape in the later half of the game. Not even a metanarrative or anything, but just a straight-up, boring, comprehensible story about this dude and that other dude and the thing he did and the terrible consequences and the quest to set it all straight or whatever. I suppose it's challenging to keep adding and adding pieces to the story without having them eventually start to cohere of their own will, which is a shame. Up until I comprehended what was going on, I thought it did a better job at playing the incomprehensiblity game than even yume nikki did.
