No, poodles are only poofy like that when they're show-cut. Poodles do have thick, curly hair, but it's not anywhere near that poofy unless the owner specifically grooms it that way. Check the wikipedia entry on poodles and the first image is a normal unshaven poodle.

Interesting character design; I chuckled at the ass-poof-accomodating pants. Sadly, show-cut poodles have always looked way too ridiculous for me to take at all seriously--no dog deserves such wanton cruelty as to be forced to wear ass-poofs and a hairstyle Louis XIV would blush to be seen in--so I think I'll stick with your other characters.
He could totally be a bond villain. He just needs some malevolent critter pet while he spouts his plans for world domination.

Very lovely design! Though I'm not a big fan of the hair, it DOES suit to a true poodle cut.. and I suppose it would be just a poofy mullet if made smaller :P

All I have to say is wow. This is an outstanding character design, its not often you see the french poodle being drawn at all let alone so well and male. This is very impressive work all round. Way to go Gideon.
