Alex was putting his clothes away when he had a phone call. He pulled out his smartphone and asked, "Hello?"
"Are you Alex?" a woman's voice asked on the other end. "The one who put out the ad about babysitting?"
"Why, yes. I'm trying to earn money to go to college." Aled responded. "How can I help you?"
"I'm Nicole Watterson. I work at the Rainbow Factory and I am overloaded with work so I won't be able to get back home until late at night." Nicole said.
"How late?" Alex asked.
"Roughly 11:00 A.M." Nicole responded.
"Oh, do you work late that often?" Alex asked.
"Occasionally." Nicole said.
"Well, I'll be there as soon as I can, just tell me the directions." Alex said.
"No need for directions." Nicole said. Without warning, Alex's room began to alter. His bedroom morphed into a kitchen. Alex looked around and found the person who called him. "Hello, Alex." Nicole said.
"Uh, how did I get here?" Alex asked.
"I had to transport you here into this universe. You wouldn't be able to drive here." Nicole explained.
"That makes sense." Alex agreed. "So, what do you want me to do?"
"Watch over my three children. Gumball is the oldest. He's goes to junior high. When he's at school, he should be fine unless he gets himself into the principal's office. His heart is in the right place, but he does have tendencies to get into trouble. Darwin is the walking goldfish and he's my adoptive son. He's ten years old and one of Gumball's best friends. He used to be Gumball's pet goldfish until he grew a pair of legs. He's very optimistic, though like Gumball can also get himself into trouble. Anais is my youngest child and only daughter. She's four years old but attends the same that Gumball and Darwin attends. She's in the ninth grade."
"Hang on a second!" Alex cried. "She's a four-year-old ninth grader? Is she gifted or something?"
Nicole smiled. "She is very gifted. She's going to college when she turns eight."
"She's the youngest high schooler I ever heard of!" Alex said.
"She doesn't get into as much trouble as Gumball and Darwin but please watch her." Nicole said.
"So where are they now?" Alex asked.
"In school." Nicole said.
"Oh, so what do I need to do when they return?"
Nicole pulled out a badge that looked like the one she was wearing. "Put this one." Alex accepted the badge and put it on his shirt. His clothes changed to match Nicole's work clothes. Next, his head turned blue and got larger and more feline. Female eyelashes grew and his voice became higher pitched. His arms became slenderer and turned blue. A cat's tail grew from his seat, and he became a woman. Her legs also turned to the same blue color and her legs became slenderer. Next, Alex felt herself grow taller and felt herself getting older. She was now 38 years old.
"Wow, I feel different." Alex said.
"You'll remain in that form until you take the badge off, so don't lose it!" Nicole warned. "I want you to pretend to be me until I get back. They should be in bed by then. If they knew I hired a babysitter, there will be chaos! Trust me, it won't be pretty." Nicole then remembered, "Oh, yes, I forgot to mention my husband, Richard Watterson. He's unemployed and very lazy and not able to keep a job. He's also pretty immature and still believes in Santa Claus." Alex sniggered at the idea of a full-grown adult believing in the jolly, plump, old man in the red suit sliding down people's chimneys and giving small children toys and candy. "Does he ever write his own letters to Santa asking for treats?"
"You better believe it." Nicole said. "His Christmas wish list is longer than any of my children's put together."
"Okay, so are Gumball, Darwin, and Anais going out with any friends?" Alex asked.
"I don't think so. They never told me." Nicole said. "But they must be back in time for dinner by 6 P.M. If they don't, call me. I'll talk to them tomorrow if they don't." Nicole said. "Here's my phone number." she handed him a piece of paper with her work number on it. "Dinner is going to be raviolis, there is a bag in the freezer for you to cook up. Just follow the directions. Any questions?"
"Nope, I'm good." Alex said.
"Thanks, I appreciate your help." Nicole said.

(Nine hours later.)
It was a busy day. Gumball and Darwin and Anais were on the good behavior today (thank goodness). When they did their homework, Darwin needed the most help with his math. Gumball seemed to take a bit longer in his lessons but didn't require any help. Anais--was a math wizard! When Alex checked over their homework to make sure it was worthy to send back to school, Anais was the most astounding. None of the kids discovered that Alex was impersonating their mother. Dinner was delicious. Gumball and Darwin talked about the latest school news while Anais talked to Richard about the next school field trip. Richard never suspected Alex's true identity. Soon, it was bedtime. She checked the four of them to see if they were fast asleep. Alex wondered how Nicole was doing. No sooner did she think this when Nicole finally returned. Her eyes were baggy, and her face was droopy. "Mission accomplished." Alex said.
"Here's the $20. She handed Alex a twenty-dollar bill. She walked into the master bedroom and Alex followed her. "Can I go home now?" Alex asked. Nicole nodded and snapped her fingers. Alex appeared right back into her bedroom. Nicole forgot to remove the badge (because of how exhausted she was) so Alex ended up keeping it. Nicole got her pajamas on and crashed face first into the bed. Meanwhile, Alex checked the clock and saw it was dinner time. Since she had raviolis, Alex decided to have a light salad so she wouldn't get a stomachache. Alex decided to wear the badge a little longer because she enjoyed her new form.
