Whoa Kester this is awesome! Look at this fish! He's lookin back at us! Curious little guy! Man this is so cool! Thanks so much for bringing me along with you. I can't think of anyone I'd rather visit the aquarium with than you! Definitely gotta do this again sometime.
Do you think they have an octopus exhibit too? :0
This commission was an absolute blast and quite a wild ride from start to finish, in all the best possible ways. I simply can't express what an immense delight it was to work with Enigma through this piece. She is an absolute bean and is incredibly helpful and willing to work with you every step of the way. She made this one of the best commissioning experiences I've ever had, and she should know that I am so thankful for that. If you needed any more reason to give her some consideration, consider this a Bisky seal of approval!
But onto the art itself... my goodness what a beautiful creation this is. The absolute attention to detail and just the ability to bring this all together in such an incredible and stunning way. All of the different fish species, especially that blue stripe on the yellowhead wrasse next to the Kester's left hoof. I love the way it just seems to glow like that and contrast so well with the yellow on the rest of the fish. There's just so many dang details in this thing that I don't even know if I can gush about all of them. Look at the bubbles! Look at that coral fan! Look at the caustics on the sand and on all the fish and stuff! Look at the reflections of the fish! We didn't even think about that, but Enigma had us covered. Gosh there's just so much here to take in and I'm so dang happy with how it came out.
I actually want to go into a little more detail on how I commissioned this one, because I think I want to start doing commissions like this in the future and maybe it can help you apply for commissions as well! I've not yet found an artist who didn't express who truly helpful it was to get even a super crude sketch to help visualize what you want out of the commission. I'll take a small hit in my pride and show you all that [this] is what I sent Enigma to get things started. A masterpiece in its own right, right? CX Jokes aside, you can see each of the fish and cnidarians labeled and positioned around the piece. The bluehead wrasse was added later on, which is why it doesn't show up in the original MS paint image.
To accompany that, Kester and I compiled a little spreadsheet you can check out that tells you what all those letters mean next to the fish and cnidarians around the enclosure. The grey ones were ones we scrapped before bringing it to Enigma - I just didn't want to throw them out completely just in case someone's mind changed halfway in. Thankfully that didn't happen XD
Anyway, hopefully that helps y'all out in working out how to tell an artist what you want. You aren't limited to just words! Use your mad MS paint skills to show them what you want!
