I thought I'd get this photo of Zak Wolf with my 1990 Fisher-Price portable phonograph, practicing a new way to do my classic record player bit for furry cons! This was Fisher-Price's final actual record player marketed towards children, still using a diamond stylus and having a built-in 45-RPM adapter, but now it was slightly smaller, and even more portable thanks to it also running on 'D' batteries! (The 1978-89 model only required being plugged into an electrical outlet.) Here I'm playing "The Hair On My Chinny Chin Chin" by Sam the Sham and the Pharaohs, the lesser-known follow-up to their hit single "Lil' Red Riding Hood." This record player is noticeably lighter and easier to carry than my Numark PT-01 Scratch, but the tonearm is also lighter, so I'm going to need to practice more on how to keep it steady enough so the tonearm doesn't keep skipping across the records. I do plan to bring this to Furpocalypse in October, along with Anthro New England 2024 (where I'll also play some winter-themed records to go with their "Nor'easter" theme!).
I'm posting this in honor of National Record Store Day 2023. Funny thing, I've owned this record player for nearly six months now. Matter of fact, I bought it off eBay in late October, and it came in the post on Halloween, late in the afternoon to early evening, so the mail carrier got to see me as Zak Wolf dressed up in grandmas' clothing preparing for the trick-or-treaters when giving me my package!
