A gift unlike any other (BIRTHDAY/MERMAY COLLAB)
Since 
masterofwolves99 and I share consecutive birthdays (April 16th & 17th respectively), it seemed like the perfect time to get a collab pieces, just fresh ahead of mermay! This piece is a continuation of the one found here, with this piece in particular having been made by 
elke!
As an aside, I'm glad to finally have something of both Val & Maku that I can share here ;)
I'm not sure if I'll be able to fulfill any plans for pieces during mermay itself, but if not, I hope this suffices!
masterofwolves99 and I share consecutive birthdays (April 16th & 17th respectively), it seemed like the perfect time to get a collab pieces, just fresh ahead of mermay! This piece is a continuation of the one found here, with this piece in particular having been made by elke!It felt as if it were a short while ago when Val first discovered the field of geodes. All of the unique fauna and vast array of crystalline, somehow isolated to a singular junction of seabed. The wonders of what this otter has found here is outstanding... However, it seems even more outstanding that such a locale is but a mystery to all sorts of underwater kingdoms that call the ocean their home. Val had found no official documents on the matter when scouting out information; only shady gossip and rumors. Luckily, his research on the life found at these geode grottos didn't seem to cause any innate harm or concern to other life... Unless you're keen on giving some fins to landfurs, but it's been well-noted that there are other methods of achieving said results.
Nonetheless, Val felt that he couldn't keep this place a secret any longer, yet felt that he couldn't simply divulge this information to the grand public. With the ability to explore the vast blue in his merform, this otter has seen what good is found within the seven seas... And what bad. He knew what dangers may arise if anyone were able to simply find the geodes; unhealthy salvaging among them. Conservation and careful harvesting would be the key to keeping the grotto safe, while also sharing its wonders to those willing to protect it and use its knowledge in a beneficial manner. Val did ponder for a moment who he could trust with this information. However, such a pause was brief as he immediately knew the perfect mer to show these geodes to!
Hey, I trust you and all, but where exactly are you taking me, Val? I didn't exactly tell anyone from the palace that I was, "GOING TO FIND SOMETHING NOBODY IN POSEIDON HAS EVER SEEN BEFORE!" I'm probably going to get an earful from my father when I return home...
We're almost there, Maku! I'm telling you, this is worth the trek out. Once you see this place, you'll REALLY thank me! Plus, your dad might forgive you for playing hooky once you tell him, too.
Val had been friends with Maku, one of the princes from the kingdom of Poseidon, for quite some time. Although, with his personality, Val isn't surprised that this member of royalty is just about friends with anyone he meets! The timing of this adventure also worked out quite well for the two. However, the merotter knew something that even the prince wasn't aware that Val had known...
Woah, I've been to raves before, but I don't think I've seen lights quite like this from afar. What is this place, Val?
Just follow along, I'll show you! ...And no, it's not a rave, silly!
Val escorts Maku into one of the many geodes laid out; one that is open enough so that the two can explore its inner treasure without being too cramped up. Once they got closer, it's as if Maku's eyes lit up with stars; shining like all the lights in the geode.
Okay, I'm not THAT into my studies, but I don't think I've seen anything like this in my books! What is this place exactly?
Honestly, I'm not too certain myself? Well, it's obviously a grotto full of these weird geodes. But the fauna and algae here is nothing like I've seen your gardens back home... Or anything documented in Poseidon for that matter. ESPECIALLY, this little fella! Like a pearl in an oyster, this right here is the crown jewel of these geodes. Every single one of them can grow waterlily just like this... I'm not crazy into alchemy like some of the scholars you've got back home, but they're gonna wanna do some tests on this thing. It's got some pretty potent properties!
How much magic are we talking here?
How about permanent merfolk transformation as long as it remains on their person?
Are you serious!?! Just one of these things can do that!?!
AND it's capable of so much more. That's only scratching the surface! Even besides that though, the properties of everything in these geodes is definitely abnormal. Even I hadn't seen crystals this bright before, until I found them here. I just hope that you won't go telling EVERYONE about this. Just enough people in the palace that need to know of what's here.
Val, you have my word. I'll even come monitor this place myself if something feels off.

Val then felt a warm feeling; a tight embrace from his friend for such a wonder gift and discovery. Especially since the prince wasn't aware that he had known it was his birthday today!

Maku couldn't help but blush as the two mermen swam off. With smug faces and waterlilies in-tow, it's only a matter of time before folks from Poseidon venture out to the grotto to further discover what mysteries and unknown magic await them. As for these two, they're going to have fun celebrating their birthdays with friends and family alike!
