Phew apologies for wait peeps but been trying to help some RL friends with some streaming recently and cant do writing so good when I'm shouting at them to 'turn around! Hes behind the left most tree and hes one shot ahhhh!'. Good ol Hunt Showdown. But I hope you like Enket receiving his mission from the super nice and just life loving Seer
Kurbon
While Enkets main opposition for the next section is set up! Hopefully his attempts to complete the mission will be an enjoyable read.
Gazing in a mix of joy and aww at the small wrapped packed in front of him Garrett was just smiling like a fool before putting it into his coat pocket. He needed to do this job right to move up in the world. So after double checking his jacket was closed and the letter wouldn't fall out he stood straight and proper before the Witch Hunter again. "Do not open it until tonight Sir. I understand."
The Hunter just nodding as he glared under his hat at the 'help' for this investigation. A thief catcher. A poor substitute. But worthwhile in his expendability and knowledge of the town. "Correct. And once you do you are to keep an eye out for anything about the disturbances." And he couldn't be in two places at once. And better to eliminate the source of the corruption rather than the festering wound here. "Just remember," he grunted as he tightened the brace of pistols over his long coat. "Don't cause a panic until I return. Or else those foul heretics will run."
Garrett just nodding again as he held his own old model pistol's handle tightly. "Yes Sir. Find anything that is corrupting out fair citizens and those already fallen. Mark down who they are. And be ready to act once you return!"
At least he listened well enough. The Hunter nodding as he turned and left the city gate. Heading toward the mountains and the Alimento river. It was the mostly likely place for the influence to seep from. Just needed to expunge that before more citizens fell. Garrett patting his vest pocket with the package inside before he headed back into the town. Time to look for bigger fish than he normally did but still thieves and sneaks! Bring them out into the Emperors holy light! Should probably get some sleep now, he pondered to himself, be ready for a long shift tonight. But could he really sleep when so wired from this mission from an official hunter? Eh thats a problem for later today!

Folding up the hood as best he could Enket was surprised how close to Miragliano this little enclave was. While sure it wasn't just outside the walls it was also in view of it. Through the mist he could make out the distant stone walls that stuck out from the mountains behind it. Odd. But he was sure Mormel wouldn't have this little outpost be a dangerous spot for him to conduct business. He was a scouting and mercantile clan after all not a conquest one. So it wasn't like this was some kind of staging area. Though...Enket couldn't help but shake the feeling that this wasn't Skauls' home base. Not only was he sure that any clan wouldn't have such a small outpost but he was sure that hed heard they were based elsewhere. He really should have checked the records before he left. But as a new Seer, always bloody Seers, that asked for him specifically Enket didn't want to waste time. As far as he knew this Mormel could count the day he sent the summons as part of Enkets time limit so he was already behind.
Maybe there wouldn't be one but such things hed found out soon enough. The dawn light and his own good low light vision letting Enket spot the triangle scratched into the rock near a mostly hidden path. The small amount of warpstone sprinkled into the symbol helping it stand out against the moss as it glowed brighter. Sucking in to better squeeze past the large boulder that concealed much of it Enket was pleased to see a more proper door ahead with two Stormvermin either side of it. A single warpstone lantern above the armored door. And holding his handpaws up at shoulder level as the two Stormies held halberds up in his direction he gulped before speaking. "Gilm-agent Enket Farseer. Here on summon-command from Seer-Master Mormel." The two glaring at the smaller rat before one held up his weapon slightly and held out his paw.
"Summons paper." Enket quickly handing it over and noting to himself that hed need to thank Voch for making sure he left with that. And as the Stormy ran his eyes over the text Enkets eyes roved over the two large specimens of Skaven before him. For Stormvermin they were incredibly well groomed. And their fur shone even more than the black furs normally do. As if they had put more than blood into their coats. It was honestly slightly impressive and imposing to him. Before the paper was shoved against his nose as the two stood aside. "Inside you go. Hand-paws to self-self. Or Seer-lord will twist you into small-painful ball." Enket noting that their bracers on their arms looked even more secure than normal. Perhaps Skaul liked to do a lot of punching and clawing so needed it. But he bowed his head and quickly moved past them to the door.
"Yes-yes Sirs." He murmured before he opened the door and slid inside. Closing it behind him before he sniffed. That was...Man-thing smells? Raising an eyebrow at the new scent Enk would humm as he padded down the short hallway toward the light. Turning the corner into the main room of this little outpost before he stopped dead in his tracks. I...it was a man-thing! A female-thing! Just cleaning one of the tables in the room! Enk patting around his hip for his knife as he squeaked and started to back up. The man-thing turning! To charge him! Before she just smiled at him.
"You must be the Gilm agent, Enket or something." The scout just staring at her as she continued. "Mormel is expecting you." She pointed at one of the many tunnel offshoots. "Hes down there. Just follow the smoke." Enket continuing to stare. Eyes roving again. She was dressed in what looked to be city clothes but rather...revealing. Her shirt open to reveal her disgusting no-fur squishy chest for the most part as well as cut away pants showing more skin. The scout having a wave of emotions as he stood there watching him before he jumped in shock as his half drawn dagger slid out of its scabbard and clattered to the floor. Making him herf and crouch down to pick it up before he quickly skittered toward the indicated hallway. Very unsure how to feel really before he smelt the smoke. It also smelt of man-things and after two corners he found Mormel sat on a pile of pillows. Happily puffing away on a pipe as he faced the door with a large smile. His horns looking recently polished as they softly sparkled in the firelight.
"Ah, Enket. Take a seat." Gesturing to another pile of pillows near by as the scouts mind was still reeling. Before Mormel snapped his fingers to help break him out of it. "Come-come we don't have all day. Business waits for no-one after all." Quickly sliding his knife back into its sheath as he bowed deeply and approached. Before feeling his way over the cushions to sit himself opposite Mormel. Trying to shrink down so he would be sat lower in case he potentially offended the Seer. But the smile under Mormels hood just grew as he watched Enket squirm. "I see you meet-saw my Man-thing slave. Majestic is she not-not?" A happy sigh. "I hope to gain-grab another one shortly."
"S...she-thing is very good-nice Master-Lord." Enket would squeak as Mormel took a deep puff before waving a hand dismissively at him. He could tell the other rat didn't really believe that. But always wanting to say the right thing showed that he was thinking for the future. His life. A good skil. Letting out a long line of smoke before he responded.
"Now-now Enket. Title-ranks and the like are for official clan dealings. Not private business-deals." The clanrat across from him looking even more confused as Mormel nodded to himself. He was simply adorable sat there. His small Skaven brain just struggling to comprehend comfort and the fine place he was in. Not to mention the she-slave. Mormel pulling out a little bell to ding before holding up a rolled up scroll. "I heard-read about your mission-task with Kritch Deeptaker. Very impressive that you-you were able to trick the half-things as you did."
Enket sucking in a breath as he was brought back to that room. The ravenous maw. Sticking to his fur. Filling his nostrils and ears. Gulping him down slowly toward oblivion. Mormel taking this moment of panic from Enket to respond to the human female who peaked her head around the corner.
"Some of the...mid-age wine deary. And two glass-cups." The female nodding before Mormel focused back on Enket. Giving him some more time with another puff before he reached over to grab some more leaves. Grinding them between his fingers into the end of his pipe before speaking to Enket again. "And it is that kind of smart-clever thinking that made me request you Enket." Well, and other reasons but the cutie would only find that out once he was back successfully. Enket having managed to pull himself together enough to focus on the Seer again as he simply nodded. Before sliding his pack off his back and pulling out his journal. Quill poised as he seemed ready to accept his mission. "Such a good little scribe-scout you are Enket." A happily smile as he held the pipe off to the side with his teeth. The smile didn't seem to calm Enket as the others tail tip flicked in panic despite trying to appear unphased. But with how Kritch had supposedly rewarded the scout, if the rumors were to be believed, Mormel couldn't blame the youth.
Spreading out his hands Mormel began the briefing. "I need-want you to head over to the - ah!" The she-slave returning carrying a bottle of wine and the two glasses as she set the glasses on the table between the two Skaven. Enket doing what he could to keep looking down at his notes as he waited for more instructions. Mormel instead resting his eyes on his glorious slave as he reached up to gently run the back of his hand down her face. And to the females credit she did not shrink away. In fact she smiled and winked at Mormel as she held up the bottle and raised an eyebrow. The Seer nodding as the popping of the cork made Enket jump in his seat before a half glass was poured into the waiting glasses. Mormel grabbing his own and giving it a little swirl before removing his pipe to take a quaff. "Ahhh - Bretonnian Stout. Fifteen years old. Wonderful-good." Nodding at the she-slave as she nodded and headed out of the room. Enket only glancing at her side as he spotted the same leather wraps on her wrist as the Storm vermin had? Before he looked down again. Don't covet a Seers prize. Or else they will covet your eyes. Mormel watching her go as she swayed her hips from side to side. Another sip at the wine before he set the glass down. "You can look-see Enket. Take in the glory of the she-form." Soaking in the view of that mostly exposed rump as Enket risked a glance back again. Tail tip flicking again before he snapped his muzzle forward again and in his book. Before she was gone. Mormel sighing again as he ran one of his fingers around the perimeter of his wine glass.
"You should enjoy-savor the she-form Enket. So wonderful. Shapley-curved. Soft. Supple. And so warm-comforting." Looking out into the distance as Enket started to count the stitches through the current page to keep it held in the journal. "Man-thing. Elf-thing. Hells even Dwarf-thing! The she-form of them all. So...great-good." Enket tentatively reaching out for the wine for something else to occupy his mind and with no response from Mormel he carefully retrieved it and gave it a sniff. Smelt of apples and...blackberry? A few more sniffs as he adjusted the position of the glass. "But one-one eludes me. Makes me desire it more-more!" A little sip. It was quite nice. Enket lowering the glass a little to lick around his teeth and lips. That was indeed very nice! Nodding a little at the taste as he went for another. "Those lizard-things," Enket horking into the glass which made some of the wine splash up onto his nose. Handpaw clutching the glass much tighter as Enkets eyes snapped up to Mormel rather than the drink. H...he wasn't intending?! "Sure-sure," the Seer mused as he held up his wine glass stroking hand and watched the few drips slide down his hand. "They are male-things. All of them. Sizes vary but male up and down. Or so others claim-claim."
Enket staring at Mormel through the glass as his fingers were death gripping the glass. Starting to make it squeal as he held it. Was he going to be sent to Lustria?! Into those jungles of instant death?! And thats if he was lucky! A dart in the neck and then blackness. Death. But what if it wasn't?! What if he would be dragged to one of those sky-temples! To be slowly de-limbed before watching his heart eaten by those savages?!
"But what if," Mormel picking up the glass again as he slowly turned it from side to side as he watched the firelight dance through the glass and remaining liquid. "Hidden-stashed away in their sky-temples. There was a she-lizard." A wide smile across his features as neither he or Enket seemed to register the small crack coming from Enkets glass. "How smooth-smooth her stomach would be. Perfect for stroke-cuddles," Enkets glass still half in his mouth as his teeth started to scrap against the rim. "And the feather-bits! The gold! To attire-dress her myself. Make her mine-mine!" The shattering of the glass finally ended that train of thought as Enket had gripped the glass with his teeth and hand so tight that it had broken. Showering his chest with glass shards and splattering his orange tunic with red liquid. Funnily enough right where his heart was! Mormel blinking at Enket as he gave him a proper look again. "Ah - shame-lame. Sometimes those man-thing glass-cups are so fragile." Leaning over the side of his cushion fort as he picked out an embroidered handkerchief and tossed it to Enket. "I can have her get-get you another glass?"
Enket just shaking his head as he missed catching the cloth as it landed on his shoulder. Patting around the area till he finally grabbed hold of it as he breathed deeply. "L...Lustr...ia Lord-Master?" He finally squeaked as he rubbed at the spilt wine. But only really pressed it more into his orange clothing as he was not at all focusing. Mormel humming in confusion as he seemed to be unsure how Enket had taken it. Before he looked over his quivering ears, spasming tail, and deep breaths and seemed to get it as he let out a hearty laugh! Finishing off his wine before setting the glass down.
"Just dream-thoughts Enket. No need to worry-panic. You will be going somewhere much closer-safer." Pipe picked up again as he chuckled some more. Silly little Skaven brain there immediately thinking of the worst. Lustria hah! That was a good one for little Enket there. He was clever-smart but claw-proof he was not. A few puffs to given Enket time to calm down before he started again. "No-no. You will be heading toward the Alimento river-tunnel. And once there you go up-east toward the man-thing settlement."
Enket mostly calmed down by now. Thanking the Great Horned one that he wasn't going to have to try and deal with Skurvy to not only get a ride but survive it before even thinking about those jungles. And with a clearer mind he started to mentally map the path he would need to take before speaking up. "Kreutzhofen Lord-mas...Mormel?"
Mormel nodding, smart little Skaven brain under those large cute ears. "Right-correct. You will be meet-dealing with a Man-thing there. Name of Berold. Will be wear-carrying a Horned Rat headband." Notebook that had thankfully been spared from the falling wine being scribbled in. "At deep-night. Found near stables and smiths. On the south side of the river." Enket remembering an old thought he had about why him when Skaul often did this sort of work already. Before Mormel, as if he could read his mind - which many Seers claimed they could - continued. "Old contact from Skaul-clan didn't return last time. So you go and find out why-why. And pay for book."
First a mirror and now a book. At least it should be easy to carry. Well supposedly. "How big-large of a book Master Mormel?" It felt too weird to not at least have some kind of title. It had been drilled into Enkets head since he could see to always adress the Order with as much reverence as he could, for his own safety. Thankfully Mormel didn't seem to mind as he traced a box with his fingers.
"Only so-so large. But it will be very thick-wide. With a lock on it. Important book Enket. Its delivery to me-me has been delayed from the last agent not returning." Some more scribbles and nodding. "And-and," pouring himself some extra wine before Mormel added. "Bring it back here. Not to Under-Altdorf!" That was it! Thats where he had heard Skaul before! Enkets ears flicking at that as he wrote that down and underlined it. Before he tapped the quill on the page. He remembered some other things about Skaul and Under-Altdorf.
"Err-umm...Master Mormel ahh..." How to voice this?
"How does the home-clan still stand? Despite the Wormstone rumor-lies?" A little nod as Enket closed his eyes and flinched when he heard Mormel getting up. Expecting a smack! But Mormel just moved off to a side desk. Enket glancing over to see him refilling his pocket with the smoke leaves. Maybe he could get some Half-thing leaf for Mormel later? That would get him more standing in Skaul surely? Though Enket bit his lip. He never did get the pipe for that Fangleader. Hopefully the Stormvermin forgot about that. Mormels tail flicking off to the side as he waved his free hand. "Lie-chitters!" He exclaimed with another tail flick. "The idea that loyal-brave Skaul could try to become-grow to face Skavenblight. Rumor-lies and nothing more!" As with most things other Skaven said Enket didn't fully believe that really. But in a Seers personal home he would do best not to question as he nodded.
"Of course Master Mormel. Right-right! Chitter-lies." Before nose back in his book. Writing down 'not return to Under-Altdorf' before adding a small plus sign next to it. Really hoping Mormel wouldn't know Gilms note codes if he wanted to read his notes or reports later. Thats a concern for when he was back successfully. Not now - far too many other concerns and problems now to add more of them. Glancing up at the horned Seer as he wondered if he had any part in those untrue rumors...that sure painted a muddy and wet picture. But focus. Focus.
"Must ensure that special-book is safe after all. Before I return-bring it home." The smirk that Mormel had on his face not seen by Enket as he wrote. Staring at the small clanrat that was all his to order arond. Giving his horns a tug as Mormel had a moment of just living for this feeling of control and power. It was intoxicating. Speaking off as he sat himself back down and refilling his glass. Though his reseating made one of his pillows from his throne fall to the side. Letting some shiny blue colored rope roll out onto the floor. Enket glancing up before just looking back down for writing.
Rope was important to have after all. Especially around Skaven structures that often needing extra support.
Mormels smile growing as he scooped up the bundle and set it in his lap. Oh yes-yes - it was all coming together nicely. He was confident that Enket could complete this assignment. Always nice to see some promising clever talent growing up. Flexible in his methods and operations and good at thinking on his feet. Hed make it back - hopefully so as Mormel had more plans for him!
"I think-think I have it all Master Mormel. Just return here as quick-quick as I can?" A nod as Enket got up, shirt still stained with a red sploch. The small bell picked up again and given two rings.
"Good-good Enket. Don't die-die." Hefting the rope bundle up again as he watched Enket squeak and look at the floor as he and his she-slave moved past each other as she had both arms full of items. One handed to Enket that after he looked at it opened the bundle to reveal a pouch of gold coins and a pendant. The mark that would prove that he was on Mormels mission and the payment for the book. The scout just nodding and squeaking something to Mormels she-slave before he skittered toward the exit. The second bundle revealing itself to be some polish and a nice soft cloth. It would be a good day as he waited for his little agent to return. Starting to unwind the blue rope as the female got the horn polish ready. Helping each other out with some work for sure.
Enket soon worming his way through the Underway toward the Alimento river. Just as a tall pointed hat entered on the Empire side. Rapier out to seek out the chaos and pierce its heretical heart. Meanwhile Garrett was just skulking around Kreutzhofen with a smirk on his face. Sure he likely wouldn't be able to sleep before the long shift but he was confident that the power he was feeling now plus the night time pouch would keep him alert for those sneaky dealings!
Phew apologies for wait peeps but been trying to help some RL friends with some streaming recently and cant do writing so good when I'm shouting at them to 'turn around!

I am. So in love with this chapter. That portrayal was... perfect! The setup, the meeting, the background information woven in. You hit Mormel's much more relaxed way of meeting agents for the first timeāand at other times, if they appear receptive! I hope it was as fun to write as it was to read!
I had a good chuckle when Enket's dagger dropped from its sheath. It's easy to forget, yeah, those are the real things that happen but get overlooked so often. And poor Enk, still all traumatized from Kitch's verminous hunger. A bit of sightseeing will surely do him good!

Phew! Im so glad you enjoyed my understanding of Mormel here! Thats the main goal that you enjoyed it since its your character. I also kind of assumed that Seers would want their horns good and shiny so gota work on that. While also of course being all kinds of euphemistic! Cause them Skaven are often pretty kinky little squeakers. Hopefully you will also enjoy when Enket returns and gets his grand reward from the Seer :>
And glad you noticed the little details I try to slip into things. Back when I was trying to learn how to get better at writing many teachers often told us that its the small details that ground a scene and can let us see insights into people. So there Enket started an action all oh no danger! Before he was just super confused of attractive(?) man-thing there who seemed to be like an employee?! Too much for his silly rat brain. As is the whole Kritch maw. But almost being swallowed alive I think thats going to stick with him for awhile still. Hopefully Voch and Kekkan can help him at least move past it a bit!

You had good teachers, sounds like! You're doing a good job of showing Enket going on his adventures and how they affect him. Kritch's maw would terrify anyone, Voch and Kekkan will most likely agree once they get to see it in action. There are probably worse ways to go, but... still, it's not pretty. Unless one is really into it. Like you said, many ratties are weird little buggers. Incidentally, calling someone "ratty" is slang for calling them horny in German!
I hope you'll find more people who want a cameo! Let's see Enket collect all those many strange contacts! Experience all the different facets of Skavendom and make many, ahem, "friends" along the way! Surely having enough powerful people with an interest in his fate will cancel each other out at some point, help keep him alive, right? ;)

Yeah my high school creative writing teacher was amazing. An very nice lady and super supportive. That plus years on years of forum writing, Halo and Redwall mostly, gave me a lot of time to practice and refine the style as it were. Glad its paying off now and people seem to be really enjoying it! And its always nice when language factoids pop up like that. With how rare mating would be for most rank n file Skaven I'm not surprised odd interests would show up for most of them. And with their short dangerous lives even the more risky ones would likely be common.
And thats sort of how Gilm itself is staying alive. Doing cheap/free work for so many different clans that they above would argue over who owns the scribe clan. Fight each other if needed while leaving Gilm alone. So Enket is really just being the perfect little Gilm clanrat for having the same situation happen to him on such a micro level! Word Chief so proud of him. And the other two stooges once they get more involved too :D Really glad so far people love their cameos.
