I had been thinking about how I wanted to design a porcelain character recently - specifically blue and white porcelain. Then wouldn't you know it... I got the opportunity to adopt a porcelain inugami character from a friend of mine!
The design originally featured an eastern dragon motif, but I got permission to change it to a goldfish design. Kingyo's name after all means "goldfish" in Japanese so I thought it was a fitting change.
Although Kingyo's body was shattered, he has been repaired with gold joinery. The art of putting broken pottery pieces back together with gold is known as kintsugi - a metaphor for embracing your flaws and imperfections.
