pov : you meet up with someone you've talked to online, and it turns out they've come with some company... π³
You arrive at the lake. The weather is perfect today; warm but not hot, windy but not so much that it'd be uncomfortable. As for the view, it's nothing short of beautiful postcard material; clear blue skys with large clouds, mountains in the background, and oh, the lake! Its unperturbed, lapis blue surface radiates serenity.
You pass by some of the pillars and other marble elements scattered in the park. You remember reading an article about those in a newspaper article, which mentioned how they were restored by professional sculptors. The vines wrapped around them look like natural garlands. Looking a little further, you can see a pair of young Bidoofs playing tag among the ruins, followed by their mother. You kinda regret not coming here sooner; this is a wonderful place, especially for a first date.
You look around. You don't see the Azelf you were supposed to meet up with yet. Feeling a little nervous, you open the Mailibird app on your phone, and check for new messages : none yet. You take a peek at their profile one last time before putting your phone back in your pocket. Along with a poorly cropped photo in which their face barely appears, you read :
Zephie
azelf with benefits. they/them, 24. long walks enjoyer, bookworm, certified cutie
They did mention their siblings would accompany them. Surely, your date and those with them would be hard to miss in this kind of place! You walk some more, clutching the small box of Pecha berry biscuits you bought as a gift. It's been about two months since you met Zephie online, and so far you've had nothing but great time talking to them. It's the very first time you go on a date with someone you met online first, and you're as excited as you are anxious.
You send them a quick message, asking them where they are exactly. Soon enough, you get a reply.
i'm near one of the pillars, the one closest to the main path. sorry i couldn't guide you sooner, i didn't think you'd be this early-
You walk towards the pillar they mentioned. As you progress, you look down at the patches of wild flowers around you, full of mesmerizing colors. Off-white and yellow flowers blend together into-
β Oh, you're here!
You look up, and freeze in place. You see an Azelf...
β C'mon, take a seat~
...whose body is shared with a Mesprit and an Uxie.
Unsure of what you're seeing, you blink a few times, as two of the four hands on their body put away the drink and the book they were holding. The Mesprit and the Uxie Zephie is... conjoined to are also looking at you now, and the sheer surprise you're experiencing leaves you paralyzed for a few awkward seconds.
Zephie then blushes and addresses you, a little worried.
β A-are you okay?
You half-snap out of it, muttering a few words you can't even hear yourself, and sit down next to Zephie, putting the biscuit box aside. They turn to you, moving their... yes, their three legs around, as their tails dance gracefully behind them. You feel somewhat vulnerable, being looked at by three times as many eyes as you expected. With a shy smile, Zephie raises a hand to gesture towards their siblings, and announces :
β So... t-this is Xia...
β Hello there~
β ...and this is Teris.
β Hi!
You begin to process all this. Some details that confused you while you and Zephie were still online start to make sense. Siamese triplets. You have trouble finding your words, but manage to ask half a question before Zephie interrupts you to answer it.
β ...Yeah, we're... a little different. You know how Azelves, Mesprits and Uxies are always born from the same egg..?
You nod. A strange and fairly niche fact of nature, but you've heard of it.
β Yeah, so... we... well, we were just born this way. We should've split up, but... we didn't.
You nod again, absentmindedly. More than the reality of it all, you're confused as to why Zephie hid their "situation" to you. Zweilouses are a thing! And so are Dodrios, and Exeggutors, and Combees! Sharing a body with someone else is not that strange a thing among Pokemons, is it..? You politely ask Zephie why they didn't tell you about this sooner.
β I... we...
They look down, avoiding eye contact with you. Their expression feels like a strange mix of embarassement and fear. You glance in direction of Xia and Teris; they're looking at Zephie with concern. Did you say something wrong? You hope you didn't say anything wrong. Zephie resumes, with a broken voice :
β ...I-it's just... every time I've been meaning to.. I-I'm not, I mean we're not.. we're not too weird, right..?
You're not sure who is in control of it, but you see a right hand coming to rest on the lower left one Zephie seems to have been using. The Azelf looks like they're about to cry. Instinctively, you also reach out to that hand and place one of yours on it. You tell Zephie they're not "too weird" at all- many other Pokemons live together as they do! You're not sure if such words will help; they might have heard them a fair number of times already. But this doesn't make them any less true to you, and you sincerely want to help your date feel better.
β Just breathe, Zeph. It's alright.
As Xia helps Zephie calming down, Teris turns to you.
β We're sorry- it's, uh, their first "proper" date as well-
β Well...
Zephie quickly rubs the corner of their left eye, as they turn to you once more. They still look very vulnerable, but at least they're looking at you in the eye now. That's a good sign, you think.
β ...I've been trying to meet with people for... for a while now. And... telling others about Xia and Teris didn't really help. So... I hid it this time.
They break eye contact again.
β ...That was a bad idea, wasn't it..?
β I don't wanna make you feel worse but... yes.
β I did tell you it was best to talk about it sooner than later.
You feel terrible about being so direct earlier. Some Pokemons may be naturally conjoined, sure, but Zephie's case is no ordinary one, and you feel like you should've approached the topic with more tact. It seems like they've had their fair share of negative experiences because of it. You move a little closer to them, and apologise to both them and their siblings sincerely.
β Oh, that's okay- it's... not your fault at all.
β Thanks for the kind words.
β Apology accepted-
You look at your date again. Though still shy, their smile came back. The rest of the triplets' hands come to rest on yours. Feeling that many fingers around yours is a strange feeling, but a welcome one. Xia takes a deep breath, as Teris speaks again.
β So... we know you've been with Zeph so far, but now you'll have to take us into account too.
Xia nods, and continues :
β From now on, we'll be here as well. If you're not comfortable with that, we'll just have to call this off.
Your eyes and Zephie's meet. They're still anxious, but seem much calmer than before. Their tone is serious; you know that they don't feel that good about telling you this, but they need to, as much for your sake as theirs :
β Sorry, but it's non-negotiable. As much as I like you, you have to accept the three of us if you want this to go on.
It's your turn to look down pensively. Your eyes land on their three feet, before moving on to their shared waist from which their two tails emerge. You hadn't noticed they had tied ribbons around their extremities; you smile. Your gaze goes back to the hands around yours, then up their arms, and finally to their faces. You pause for a few seconds, but you don't even need to think any further; this is a no-brainer. You tell them you happily accept.
Zephie blushes as their smile widens. Xia says :
β It's alright if you need some time. You've.. never talked to us before, after all.
β But boy did Zeph talk to us about you~
β Teris!!
You and the Mesprit can't help but giggle as Zephie's cheeks turn to a bright pink. You feel relieved. All the tension that was here mere minutes ago is completely gone.
As Teris stops laughing, you seize the opportunity to address all three siblings and be honest with them. You love Zephie very much, and your feelings for them haven't changed at all. You tell them you see them as "three gifts wrapped in the same paper". You don't try to hide the fact that it's Zephie you like first and foremost, but you open up about the very real possibility of loving all of them equally soon enough. You take a moment to look at their wide smiles, after which they say in perfect unison :
β ...Thank you so much!
They wrap their arms around you in a big, warm hug. You put yours around their waist, as you bury your head between theirs. You feel Zephie rubbing their right cheek against yours. You're surrounded by sincere love, and it's the best you've ever felt.
As your hug goes on, without words, you suddenly hear Teris break the silence, their voice filled with excitement as they look over your shoulder.
β ...Pecha biscuits?! I love those!
You completely forgot you had brought a gift! You turn around, and give the three siblings the box. As they hold it with their upper hands, Zephie giggles and says :
β That's... actually funny, because-
One of their hands reaches out to something next to the book and drink they put aside. An identical biscuit box. Well, except for the fact that these were made with Mago berries, rather than Pecha ones. You pause, then laugh. Zephie, Xia and Teris laugh as well, in a unique and beautiful harmony.
The four of you talk for so long you don't even notice how much time passes. You share personal stories as the wind caresses the flower patches. You share personal concerns as you hold their many hands. You share personal hopes as you take turns biting into the biscuits you brought. Eventually, as the sun sets behind the mountains, you leave the park, and part ways with a final hug. On your way home, you reflect on today's events, wondering about where you and the siamese triplets might go next time.
Life is good.
