Edwin Sketch-a-Week: W12
🎨: Wolpernickel
This is the first themed piece in the project. They artist was wanting to create something Halloween themed and I figured Edwin would work well as Mephistopheles. I have a reference collage hidden in my scraps (https://www.furaffinity.net/view/49612021/).
The red glow adds a subtle menacing touch throughout the piece and the position of the light provides maximum spook factor (located close to the ground shining up). I also enjoy the contract between the sharp collared shirt and the softly detailed suit coat. I feel like it rounds out the piece, helping it avoid becoming something that is overly pointy, angular, and sterile. Lastly, the background in a nice touch and look at the maximized check fluff!
Detail = Fair. On one hand, the nose and mouth are greatly simplified. On the other hand, the red back glow is will blended into the angles (like in the cheek fur) and the tie has dimensionality to it via shading.
Shape & Borders = just beyond Slightly Soft, Rounded Lines. Although their are areas that contain straight lines and strong borders (e.g., the collared shirt), how the details are represented in the suit coat are rather soft plus there is many lines that are broken up by fur or clothing wrinkles.
Anthro type = Near-human. If you removed the ears (which are minimized within the frame) and cheek fluff you get something close to a person staring down at you.
Furry Art Style Category = Toony, but close to Animalia.

I like this this guy's style! Handsome closeup of him ^^
The best part is I have a mustache and goatee in real-life. It is not a handlebar, but folks still sometime make the comparison...
