Why would he be gay and republican? Is he supposed to be a characterization of someone who is gay but subscribes to talking points that demonize trans people?

I really don’t believe people like this would get along with actual conservatives whose traditions would not align to progressive sexuality unless they really have a humiliation fetish but the unsexy kind

His view is different from most progressives or conservatives. He just doesn't care about it. He has friends are Republicans and democrats because he doesn't care what political ideologies people have. He's like pansexual of politics.

Besides my comic book story is about the United States no longer exists and politics is from the past.

Interesting... But like it really gives off the wrong message especially when it uses real world terminology like “republican/democrat” etc (which btw is exclusive to modern US politics) and kinda felt more like politics being forced rather than serving as a means of storytelling/world building. For instance Star Wars, especially the prequels, have a lot of politics but they still very much in the realm of fantasy and I think a good way of how they emphasized this an episode from Clone Wars where Senator Padme, a supporter of the Republic Alliance, meets an old friend who is a supporter of the CIS and both of their ambitions are respected

I think that essentially because this is your sci-fi story, maybe you can create your own fictional politics with their own twists. Like maybe instead of calling the two parties “republican/democrat” you can call them “the reformist part/the economic party”. Just some random uncopyrighted ideas

It's actually based on a Christian movie I use to watch when I was little kid. The United States becomes evil or something like that mark of the beast thing. I'm not religious but I used this concept for my story.

Cool. Though I mean those are just my ideas for your world but it’s your call if you want to incorporate similar themes of keeping politics within the realm of fantasy (like how Fallout does) rather than using direct political language of the real world which might be controversial,

but I think what really might help so that people don't get offended and don’t think you have problematic and contradictory political views is to maybe put a disclaimer on the top of the description implying that political terms, despite sharing similar real world terms such as “liberal” or “conservative” thats associated with real world politicians, should not be taken in the context of modern irl politics as such concepts were long lost to time as new nations were destroyed and rebuilt (or something like that) and work completely differently in this world
