She put on her best smile as she had countless times before the court. She tried to be happy. After all, she was carrying the child of the man she loved. How could she though when he was standing behind her, silent for both theirs and their child's sake while her husband prattled on about his seed's prowess?
Yes, the child was that of her husband's bodyguard. A werewolf at that. The doddering, old fool hadn't suspected a thing, not that he could see anything beyond his age, wealth, and power among the court. His beloved wife, his sixth wife younger than him by four human generations, was so lucky to hang from his arm like a velvet cloak. What could any other creature, let alone a lowly mongrel, offer her that he couldn't?
Perhaps warmth? Care and honesty? A love for her as a person? He had been the only man in this damned castle that had seen her as anything other than the duke's trophy wife. Had comforted her through countless nights of crying. Had loved her as she loved him.
She bore no guilt over her adultery, but she knew that day by day her secret risked being revealed. Something would need to be done. For the sake of the wolf she loved and their child, she needed to get out.
Just a story idea I came up with and wanted to try out. What do you folks think?

You've got quite a hand for writing! I really like it. Probably seen the concept around a bit before but it's one I enjoy!
Thanks! I really appreciate your kind words.
And yeah, I never claimed I was striving for originality ^^; But the idea of "Vampire woman engaged to boarish vampire count but in love with a werewolf" got into my head, and wouldn't leave and now I kinda love these two.

It definitely tempts at the sequel you were hinting at, where she either elopes with said werewolf or perhaps, in a twist of fate, wrestles control out from her uncaring husband. Certainly the latter option isn't the safest in her current state but they can only keep it a secret for so long!
