Dance Hall
A Thursday Prompt story

“Thank you, thank you,” the compere said as the band finished playing and the singer took a bow. The audience applauded as the master of ceremonies added, “Let’s keep it up for Kevin Islam and Brucie! A smile, two bangs, and an auditory terrorist act! Keep it up, which is what Cole Porter kept saying to them!”
The audience dutifully laughed at the joke. “What a lovely song,” Alice said as she allowed a dashing young officer to escort her back to their table. The corgi smiled as the terrier seated her before taking his own chair. “This was a wonderful idea, Seth.”
“I’m glad you’re enjoying yourself,” Seth said. He was playing a long game, the ultimate goal of which was to see the corgi out of her cocktail dress. “The Alexandria Room came highly recommended, and when I heard that Kevin and Bruce were performing, I just had to invite you. I have all their records at my flat.”
“Oh?” Alice almost purred. She was playing a game as well, and his implied invitation wasn’t unwelcome. “It sounds wonderful.”
“Would you like to hear them?”
Thought he’d never ask, Alice thought. She said, “Maybe after the next dance,” as the band swung into the wartime favorite Mister Muttley’s Making Masks for Marines.

Nope! The first paragraph's adapted from a bit from Monty Python's Flying Circus, and the song mentioned in the last sentence is a parody of the wartime music hall tongue twister Sister Susie's Sewing Shirts for Soldiers.
The problem with Sister Susie is that it's a tongue twister and an earworm.
