It was these rare moments of peace that Skunky cherished.
When his neighbour approached him about house-sitting for a few days, he practically jumped at the opportunity. After a particularly busy month filled with weddings, banquet services, and all sorts of other odd jobs, the overworked mustelid needed some time to himself to help unwind and decompress and housesitting was the perfect side job for him.
His neighbour was well aware of Skunky’s minor case of excessive foot odour, so he pleaded to Skunky to keep the windows open at all times and to try and wear clean socks. His collection of exotic potted plants were especially sensitive, he warned, and it was imperative that the utmost care is taken when dealing with them. Skunky nodded in agreement as he took notes on the best way to care for each plant. After a quick rundown of proper plant care, he waved goodbye to Skunky and was off.
6 hours later, Skunky was just finishing up the last chapter in his book, his sweaty bare feet resting over the armrest over his fuming shoes. He was so engrossed in his book that he didn’t realize that his foot odour was ‘engrossing out’ the house plants. Their leaves and stalks began to wither and change colour, turning from vibrant dark greens into sickly yellows and browns in the wake of the hazardous fumes. Petals dropped off at an alarming rate and even the normally resilient flower in Skunky’s lapel was feeling the effects of the stench, drooping slowly as the foot fumes worsened.
It wasn’t until he sniffed the air and glanced up from his page-turner that Skunky noticed the damage he had caused. His ears flattened sheepishly as he realized he forgot to throw on fresh socks after his quick shower a few hours ago... as well as wear his cleanest shoes. 😅
Oh well. At least the stanky boi has a few days to replace the plants before his neighbour gets back. Should be plenty of time to get this fixed. So much for a relaxing vacation...
