This painting was quite the challenge, but I'm pretty happy how it came out. :]
I don't think I've spent so many hours painting a single piece since college, somewhere close to ninety hours in the end.
It's about 11x17 inches and is mostly painted with acrylics.
It's the cover for FurtherConfusion's convention book next January, following their down under theme of "Southern Crossing."
I drew a lot of inspiration for it from my own experiences camping three weeks in the Outback with friends and family a few years ago. :]
From left to right, we've got Diego (dingo), Jack (red kangaroo), a quoll and feral goat up on the truck, a wombat, emu, Diego's mum, an echidna, a numbat in the foreground, a Tasmanian devil and another quoll.

I miss the good ole' days when me and my friends use to do that. Great job as always Blotch
Wow, you can really see how Diego has changed over the years, and SQUEE his mum! I just adore the lighting in this piece. All the tiny details, right down to the rocks and debris in the ground, are just mindblowing.
This is really great, and gave me an excuse to babble at a friend I'm showing this to about marsupials. Now he knows what a quoll is. XD
My favorite part is the lighting and the blue/gold contrast, though it's all very awesome.

AWESOME! Great work as always :D! Love the insects frying on the grill :P! Nice touch X3.
Diego's mom, has got it goin' on, and the fact that she's a wine head just makes it better xD
Is it me or did you try (and managed successfully) to hide pantless Jake ?
Anyway, great job ! I'd love to see more of Diego and Bayshore in the future, I got kind of attached to these characters, do you plan on doing some ?

I cant even put words out to describe how great your artwork is girls...keep it up, you were the artist that brought me into the random and you keep amazing me...
dumb phone. That's why I never use auto-correction - only spell-checking. Trust your human brain to be a far more advanced pattern filter than any computer.
Love it, and its great to see Quolls, Numbats and especially echidna’s, I actually had one in my backyard yesterday XD
This is wonderful! Congrats on completing it!
I was just reading Dog Days of Summer yesterday and was wondering if you were going to do more work of Diego. Glad to see him pop up!

I'm very impressed by the skyline. It's so true-to-life. I even see the Southern Cross in there.
Wow, that's a really great spread! Thanks for finding the time to post!
Camping three weeks in the outback would be so fun!!
Lovely picture as always, Blotch!

That's exactly what I was thinking!
I looked at the picture and then down at my arms.

You guys are incredible! So much detail,, and the lighting~ So gorgeous! @_@
Perhaps one of the biggest things I truly enjoy about your works, aside from the fact that it is unquestionably gorgeous and unique, is the fact that you involve the entire world of creatures and as for how they interact to each species is no different than race or skin colour.
Jack looks like he's not too happy with Diego for some reason, and Diego looks kinda like he's giving a "... so are we cool?" toast. Am I reading too much in to this?

In the foreground? It's a numbat. Bilby would be cool, too. But I'm squeeing over the numbat.
How the **** do you even begi...... wooow. Look at the little guy gettin his food! So CUTE!
Love the numbat. Love the quoll sneaking an extra snack from behind the distracted tasmanian devil. That's a bold marsupial there.
Actually, I'm pretty sure he's throwing a snake skeleton onto the grill...
Damn i always love the scenes you two make, so much life in them
As someone who's painted in oils... WOW!!!
Oh, this is wonderful!

Well done!
I caught the Dog Days cast before I read the description! Beauty. :)

I love this one because I love the feeling it gives me, it reminds me of times I've spent as a child camping with my friends or family. Nothing quite like sharing some beers and chow around a big fire, telling bullshit and laughing all night. <3
Don't burn the brats man! It'll ruin the vibe!

absolutely amazing. wonderful detail. everything seems so accurate and realistic. i like the warmth of the fire and the general feeling of such occasions.
fantastic! I love the atmosphere here, and those trucks! incredible
That fire looks really good, and the light cast from it and the barbecue looks phenomenal.
The echidna looks pleasantly amused.
Oh, look! The NordGuard insignia!

I've always been a big fan of your work.. and rarely ever comment only because i know the chances of it being seen are slim... but as an Avid Off-Roader i have to say this really caught my eye not only for its technical accuracy and skillful execution.. but for the deep sense of Community and fun that Off-Roaders share on trips and the PURPOSE behind such events.... This really made me smile :)
thank you for sharing this with the fandom.. Hopefully this will inspire more furs to take more active measures in preserving our nature and its beauty for our continued mutual enjoyment

Very awesome ^,^ ironically I was listening to "One day I'll fly away" from the Moulin Rouge Soundtrack, actually can see it fitting this nicely <3 again vury awesome job painting
Fantstic, I also think that the Tasmanian Devil looks really intimidating even though he looks pleasant enough. Really great piece
I have never seen an anthro guiniea pig before. awesome work!
it would appear that Diego has a case of Soap Opera Rapid Aging Syndrome
WOW....I love the detail! The stars are awesome! The shading with the fire is really accurate! Keep this up!
Aye this be one very beautiful piece of work! Its a must FAV!
There are so many aspects to this piece that fired some dusty nerves in my mind.. I can almost get some tears going.
Awesome Job

Wow this is amazing! I love the light and shadow works! Very few people get fire light right. I love how you draw anatomy and just make everything so cozy and believable :)
MY EYES! The sheer awesomenes, detail and FELING this has to it is just melting my face 0.0
Seriously though. This is a BEAUTIFUL piece, lighting making it look like a rather warm cozy scene. Every little detail of this is flawless and has definitely given me a new wallpaper.... and I have a feeling this will last a LOOOONG time.
Very well done on this as it looks incredible. Pefect even.

Thats absolutely gorgeous! The pieces that you two are creating are amazing! I really adore the warm light of the campfire and the milkyway, just beautifull!
And yay, Diego and Jack are back! And a very nice view of Diego's mom Haven't seen much of her in the comic.

This is absolutely amazing. The glow of the fire on the cloth is so realistic.
I love this!
apart from the 'Victoria' plate on the car sssh
Your work is stunning. I wish I could see this in real life!

I find it amazing that the license plate is so realistic.

AGHHHHH> There are no words for how amazing this is. I would get a print of this in an instant.
Also: Yayyyy! Wombat! :D
Also: Yayyyy! Wombat! :D
I find it quite interesting, I see a good amount of art work that has a desert setting and there is almost never donkeys in the piece. Horses and camels are good modes of transport if you could have afforded them. The poor in history and today had to use the cheapest upkeep beast of burden aka donkeys.
I might not have commented if there was not a goat in your piece which is not native to to Australia.

This is gonna make an awesome conbook cover. Congrats btw on being GOH at FC this year.
Wow! You actually went camping in the Outback? That's so cool!
But I have to ask, does it get cold at night over there?
But I have to ask, does it get cold at night over there?
Nah, it's not cold at night. I was there in October (so, spring,) and I remember all my summer camping gear worked out just fine. :]
Are they grilling centipedes? Because, if that's so, that's the best "little detail" I've ever seen in a furry piece.
Australia really is just like that! I hope! I live in Sweden :(
I was about to ask if that was Diego and Jack from DDoS on the left. Then I red the description panel.
Farmer's union iced coffee from South Australia, Victorian numberplate, Fountain sauce, and an homage to Bendigo. Animals are cool, interesting choices! More likely to bump into a wild brumby or camel than a goat out there.
I actually ran into a lot more goats in the bush then brumbies... but horses never did like me much. ;]
Really? That's so cool haha! Last time I went out I only saw goats on one day, but brumbies came within about 20 meters of us at dusk a few times for a graze. I guess you're always gonna get a different experience. Hope you get an op to come back soon
Fantastic! Beautiful colours and such, and yes, as said above, Diego does look mature :3
Holy crow I can tell you put a lot of work into this! Beautiful work, as always! :3
I'd love to visit the Southern Hemisphere someday and see that beautiful night sky. :3
90 hours? I don't want to know how much that would cost!
Well done, guys. This image, despite the ton of info it contains, is all easily read.

Not ONLY is this one of the best pictures on FA, it's also set in my home state! :D
Oy haven't seen those two n quite a while but somethins different? Eyes and nose?
digging the little Nordguard shout out sticker on the suitcase on top of the car. WIN.
It's simply amazing, a real piece of art. Good to see Diego again too. ^^
Your works are so... normal. I mean... they dont have magic, mumbo-jumbo stuff, sharp colors/contours, the aura of your artworks is like "just normal day with my furry friends on BBQ partie, yup"
This entire picture just makes me so happy. It's so amazingly detailed.
I'm going to travel somewhere just to see the night sky like that. Humans have created so much light in the world that we barely even see stars anymore, even in suburban areas.
I'm glad to see Diego and Jack again too. I've wanted a goatee like that since I was about... nine, and I realized very recently that after almost a decade I've finally reached my goal. Life is good.

This piece's atmosphere is so serene, instant fav!!! Also it brings back childhood memories of when I lived in the country and actually COULD see the star; its nice to see them again
Makes me wish I could go to FC even more...I visited Australia for a few weeks and fell in love with it. Beautiful work!
always wanted to visit austrailia but i keep hearing about all these critters that can kill you at a glance (or almost). (also money and that's quite a flight from seattle)
You know, at first I was kind of afraid of all the poisonous this and that Australia has to offer. However, after spending extensive time with Australians, it came to light that they are terrified of North America because of all the bears, pumas and so on and so forth. Their rationale was, "At least you can STEP on a spider!" ;]
LOL! Good point! My dad had a few run-ins with both while bowhunting in western Washington (state).
OOOOOOOHHOHOHOHOOHOHOHOHOHHHO *yells it* Diego!!!!! <3_________<3
btw i noticed the Nordguard sticker on the luggage on the car, nice!!!!
Incredible detailing and I love the little bits of Australia you've included here such as the Victorian numberplate on the car, iced coffee and a brand of tomato sauce. The scenery and characters are also beautifully rendered. Amazing stuff!!!!:)
Thank you for your art, thank you for your wonderfull, lovely, lovable adorable kangaroos, especially. Thank you so much.
Simply amazing. Every character looks so incredibly realistic, each with the right anatomy for its species and each with its own personality. The detail you've put into this is mindblowing, in every feature - the characters themselves, the car, the scene, the sky. And to have achieved such detail on a piece that's only 11x17" is even more amazing!
Brilliant piece all around; the little details, like the Australian flag apron and the gentle shadows from the fire are amazing, but the sky is something else. The stars are bright and the sky is so expansive - there is an extra something that makes it come to life. Excellent work, my favorite piece of yours so far.
I'm always amazed when artists turn out a complicated piece like this. I've even just checked to see if FC-2011 was a valid Victorian plate (which it apparently is). :p
Wow. just...wow. That's so amazing! I feel like I could just walk up and grab a beer with them! You really captured the chill vibe, and amazing colors too!
wow i named every critter there with out reading the discription ^^
wow, you paint night scenes so beautifully =3 and yay Aussie theme!
Yay I'm an Aussie fur -and- I'm going to be at FC in January! This is amazing! For once it's not a completely over-stereotyped pic, its just really really well done and fairly true to life. Well.. apart from the whole animal people thing but you know.. <3 Blotch
How did you do-....ya know what? No, I'm not even gonna ask. I'm just gonna accuse you of witchcraft and enjoy the picture. Wouldn't want to ruin the magic.
I lack coherent words to compliment this either.
Except that, I've seen the Southern Cross for the first time!
Except that, I've seen the Southern Cross for the first time!
This is really good! only us outback aussies dont use a barbeque ;) we use the fire. I swear the female dingo in the singlet with the tattoo looks like my aunty o-o
Question... why Diego looks more like some rock band vocalist here? XD
hmmm. maybe i'd better get down there on thursday (to furcon) to make sure i get a program book before they run out of them.
that's just amazing, and well worth the hours you put into it.
that's just amazing, and well worth the hours you put into it.
Top notch, I can see where all the hours went, so much detail and the animals features were nailed..... Plus I recon Diego's mum is a bit of a hottie..... go the bottle of plonk.
Looks like a great time! sorta reminds me of camping way up in the keweenaw peninsula in upper Michigan, man i wanna do that again now!
I've got to get my tail out of bed more often an go camping. you live in Australia, but you never do these things till friends come round XD
Heya, I must remember an all this summer weekends with my friends. I love it. Thats a cool picture
Incredible work as always.
I love my Farmers Union Iced Coffee! *grins give you huge Aussie Polar Bear hugs*

Ahh feral goat xD I couldn't figure it out. The number plate says Victoria, but they're clearly in South Australia with that Iced Coffee in the image there. <3 Farmer's Union Iced coffee. Otherwise, absolutely fantastic image, stunning mood and lighting. The time spent really shows.
this is amazing!
and the number of comments is mindblowing! ^^
and the number of comments is mindblowing! ^^
This makes a very snazzy computer wallpaper. <3
This would be an awesome cover for an australia day calendar or something
The detail of this item is amazing, even down to the Fountain tomato sauce :) (I only buy fountain)
I have been to many a bbq like this XD Though with Queensland on the number plate ;) I was born in Victoria though.

i sm just stunned, that people can draw this, you would almost say its not real. amazing
truely beautiful :'3 love the setting and the mood~ mad-genius skills with the traditional media here! ^^-;
Love it! Reminds me of the overnight weekend trips my off-road club does in the summer
Wow this is very lively. Juts how you drew and colored this it looks truly amazing
it so beautifil pic, i wonder how you get this flame lights effects throught those characters ciertainly i have not words for it, simple awesome.
Beside, id like that Bayshore had appeared near Diego

The Devil looks like he's got some powerful arms. It is nice to see Diego again too. I kinda hope to see a new 'Dog Days of Summer' sequel of one form or another.
A nice outdoor piece altogether here, and partly reminds me of my vacation where I roasted marshmellows with my mother.

Out of curiosity, Do you plan to sell prints of this at any point? you'd make a mint, I think...
I went to FC 2011 and yet im faving this now? WTF is wrong with me!!!
The only thing missing from this Aussie themed pic is a BnS ute :3

Should I ever finish my novel I know who I'm going to ask to do the cover art. Very cool for so many reasons.
I'm impressed. I wonder how you can transmit such beatuyfull feelings only using your hands .. great piece. (sorry for my bad english)
WOW! Hoe did I ever miss this piece? Superb lighting effect and that night sky is MAGICAL!
It looks very good, that image reminds me of the trips I used to make with a group of 4x4s to different places, to the countryside, to mountains or places where I spent the Dakar in Argentina.
They were unforgettable and unique moments we spent days in the place where we were going.
After inflation and the economy in Argentina settle down a bit, I will surely go on outings like that again, I have faith in enjoying moments like that again.
Thank you for making me remember part of those unforgettable adventures. 😁👍
